So I've been trying to clean up the panties tag, categorizing whether a character fits into one of the following categories:

panties_down
panties_around_one_leg
panties_aside
hand_in_panties

But there's one thing that I've seen recurring a bit and I'd like to start tagging, but I'm not sure what to call it. Basically, where a character is masturbating *through* their panties.

I guess masturbation_through_panties sorta works, but I wanted to check and see if it was a good idea to begin tagging this first.

How about clothed_masturbation? Could be used when it is implied as in hand under clothes, and/or when the hand is over and visibly masturbating. It can also imply clothed (which implies clothes) and masturbation, since you require both to perform it. It also works as a male/intersex version, and the differing tags would be penile_masturbation or vaginal_masturbation. It even works, in theory but to a much lesser application, for anal_masturbation.

This is all in comparison to specifically panties. I'm listing the benefits, not countering any unspoken downsides (the gender statement specifically, since the examples are all female).

Clothed Masturbation seems like a useful tag, but I still think the act of masturbating with clothes in the way deserves it's own tag as distinct from when the masturbation is "direct".

I don't like clothed_masturbation being the tag for masturbation through clothing, because it sounds like it would apply just as well to someone masturbating, say, with their penis sticking out of their pants, for instance, which is a different thing in my view. I don't know.

That would fall under technicality, I would call that normal masturbation because, while clothed, the penis is exposed to the air. However, do keep in mind the tag has to be short and simple. Maybe something like clothing_masturbation, as they are getting off to their fabric of choice as well.

Reminds me of the term "dry humping". Could dry masturbation be used? Though it sounds like a turnoff.

This is the simple version. There's two interactions. Hand interacting with panties, and then panties interacting with pussy. More generally, this would mean:

Anyway..

What we learned here is that.. this is a type of indirect masturbation. Currently, there exists a tag toying_self which means masturbation using sex_toys. What you're proposing here is similar, except using panties instead of sex_toys.

It should apply to all genders, so we can't mention pussy.
We also can't mention panties, because that would be too specific and wouldn't normally apply to all genders. clothes seems fine.

We also have a toying_partner tag. So perhaps there's a need to differentiate when a character is rubbing self or someone else through clothes.

Clothed masturbation is relatively clear in regards to a difference between that (fully clothed) and clothing being like, pulled or pushed around the object(s) being manipulated in question, as those would have different tags like 'panties/underwear to the side'.

You just have to make sure that the two sets (clothed) vs. (clothing to side) aren't implicated to each other.

And you have to have some leeway for more than just panties being the clothing involved, because I'm sure a skirt or large shirt or bikini or boxers would work in 'clothed' too.
