I'm not sure, I imagine this being used for both open_mouth and grins (and I don't think that counts as open mouth).

I would argue emoticons have a place, they are a fairly easy way to find a certain expression that are specific compounds of expressions or simply stereotypical expressions.

Hard to say. Is the :d just :D caught in e621's de-capitalization filter or is it someone sticking their tongue out in concentration or lip licking?
