Someone mind giving an explanation onto what Otherkin is? As far as I gathered, it's a Fursona (why is that in my Auto-Correct, I never use that word...), but I don't want to go off and assume similarities.

wikipedia - otherkin

wikifur - otherkin

Rant on Otherkin

On topic: I find the Otherkin concept to be ridiculous for two reaons. For starters, almost all of the otherkins I came across identify themselves as something that's cool (dragons, demons, wolves, etc.) just to make themselves feel cool. This is similar to fursonas (foxes, wolves, dragons, sergals, etc.) The only difference between the two, Otherkin fully accept who they are in real life.

The other reason, they never truly act what they claim to be. For example, I came across a post where a foxkin went to a zoo and came across a fox exhibit. The foxkin was happy and barking at the foxes, but when the foxkin had to go, he whimpered...that's now how foxes interact in real life. foxes generally view each other as competition and will act hostile towards each other, especially when it comes to territory.

I at first thought this was a trending mental disorder that these otherkin people were having, but over time I began to think that it's just another trend to get attention...then again they're getting unwanted attention.

TL;DR: Furries know their limits while "Otherkin" Take it too far.

hmmm...that's rather interesting. especially if you take into account the likelihood that some areas of science may very well advance enough to make the concept of "anthros" into a reality eventually. is that something we would need to work with when it comes to anthros? some lvl of connection between the anthro and the feral? such a connection could be useful but also problematic depending on the situation.

might be something worth bringing up when discussing such things.

edit: boy...this world will be a LOT more interesting to observe whenever science reaches that point. :) or you never know, nature could always surprise us one day and beat science towards that end result. lol

personally i have to bring this up but i don't like on how furries are going straight to otherkin for their dragon fursona.i will state this that there is 2 kinds of otherkin fakers and real and by that i mean fakers who fake their otherkinism and real people who go in public in a dragon fursuit that's fine by me but don't fake it easily

So... a "real" otherkin goes around in real life wearing a dragon suit and acting like a dragon? What?

*smh*

If I was otherkin, I would have to say that I am Sans.(undertale)

Like, I almost literally am Sans. Just not a skeleton or magically powerful. Other than that though, I am Sans (mostly mentally speaking):

Similarities:

*I "know things",

*I have a grander and more 'black and white' perception of what is important in life and what isn't compared to others, and that often leads people to think I am lazy.

*I love puns way more than most.

*I keep spirits high for others even when all is not at all okay.

*I protect my own.

*I (romantically) love me some goat mom. If tori was a real person, even in human form, I'd HAVE to date her. If not then I'd at least let her take care of me. She'd just be so perfect, both as a mother and as a romantic partner.

And last but not least...

*I view and consider the content of one's heart/soul rather than what the person looks like or "what they are". To me there is no race/gender/heritage. There is only souls. Humans. And regardless of the traits others may quickly judge by on the outside, I can quickly see whether someone is truly good or bad by looking within them. (In a manner of speaking)

I'm Sans, just in a non-magic human form.

But I'm not otherkin, so whateves.

Sans does not love Toriel. That's Fanon trash. Toriel hooking back up with Asgore is also Fanon trash. Canon only shows that Toriel holds a grudge against Asgore and she enjoys puns as much as Sans does. Being romantically interested in Toriel is your own thing, not his.

You also use capital letters.

Identifying as a specific fictional character falls under otakukin rather than regular otherkin.

Where does the spelling of Orc as Ork originate from?

As far as I'm aware it's from Warhammer 40k, as I've never seen it spelled as "ork" along with English text anywhere else.
It's probably for trademark reasons, though with AoS Games Workshop have dialed it up to eleven and rebranded the Orcs as "Orruks", in addition to renaming everything else that wasn't already exclusively trademarkable.

I know a lot of people who identify as animals. The sad part is that I know as many, if not more, who don't identify as animals.

What do they identify as, if not any animal, which humans are included in? Toasters, fans, attack helicopters?

Nothing even remotely that interesting, just humans, as you mentioned. You know, supremacy over other animals and all that jazz, although thankfully it's mostly unintentional.

Also to get back on topic, how do you even fake being an otherkin? I mean either you are or you are not. Whether or not you dress up like a fursuiter doesn't matter since otherkin seems to be more spiritual than anything else, almost a bit like gender.

That's what I said. Humans are included in the "Animalia" kingdom.

Either a translation ("Orc" in German wouldn't be pronounced like that, thus it's "Ork" over here"), or maybe copyright reasons.

it's the short form of "Krork" or space ork from Warhammer 40K

Speaking of heating elements, it's not recommended to use heat rocks for body warmth when keeping reptiles because of the possibility of burning them.

And that's quite insulting for a species that's cold-blooded.

Burns them as bad as Pompeii burned the humans--They disintegrated and became non-soot marked inverse-stains on the walls.

fake their otherkinism

Soooo.... faking a mental delusion about being non-human. Interesting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gWXwbToNpA

I miss the days when we all knew this was just a roleplay thing and not some kind of weird religion. Honestly, I'm just in this fandom because I like cute fluffy things (and the drawings people make of them), not because I actually think I am another species.

And there's "posers" in the Otherkin.... community? (almost called it a fandom, lol). Oh noesers, there's poesers!!!! So is this like when people in the Japanese Rock fandom bitched about newbs coming in and liking their super special bands? "I liked Dir en grey before you did, stupid newb!" Except now it's about what... people coming in and appropriating your kin-sonas or something? "I was winged-wolf kin before you were, stupid newb!" Oh those silly Tumblr kids, what'll they think up next.

Believe it or not, I think that used to be a thing. In Otherkin forums a few years ago they were discussed at some length and were tentatively referred to as either "transportation-kin" or "vehicle-kin."

Omfg... KITT-kin.

I am the voice of the microprocessor of the Knight Industries Two Thousand, K-I-T-T... KITT, for easy reference, what is your destination?

LOL, thankfully most Otherkin aren't stupid enough to try something like that.

Though I did know a Dragonkin who jumped off his house once when he was a kid because he thought he could fly. He didn't get too badly hurt, because a Prickly Pear cactus plant in his mother's garden broke his fall, but at least he got the point (pun is most definitely intended) and hasn't tried it since.

Nope, editing more content into a post is done via the "Edit" button, not the respond button.

That's why there's the furry community, with a viewpoint of their hobby as entertainment and fun, and the otherkin community who often are completely serious about their beliefs. The two are almost not even comparable to each other.

Anyway... I'm still curious of what one really have to gain from faking being an otherkin.

A prickly pear... broke his fall. Okay. Better than concrete I guess.

While I understand the desire to be something other than what you are, for escapism, or something similar, I don't actually have any desire to be anything but myself.

Others who know of my affinity towards Ponies assume that I want to BE one, a delusion that I quickly quash. I identify as a human male, with a unhealthy fixation on horses, and I am very comfortable in my skin. The part I don't tell them about myself, is that I'm really into human on horse action.

Quadruped ponies are best ponies

I personally dont believe in otherkinism as if people really somehow are what they "identify" as. It doesn't follow logic imo. That said, I can see how people can dream of being something else, but there comes a point where you have to accept reality and accept what you are.
I'm a man of logic and reasoning and I use science to figure things out, not mysticism
