Topic: I Need Help Drawing a Anthro Lizard

Posted under Art Talk

Hey and thanks for clicking this thread =)
My names Look to the left and I'm an avid artist.
To give you a quick run down on what I'm doing,
I recently got sucked into the game "Trials in Tainted Space"
(I've lost 4 or 5 days to this game already ~ ~)
Anyway, I have a character in it I reeeeeeally want to draw!

The character is a Male Azure and Emreld colored Lizard, With a lithe frame and goo hair in the shape of a Mohawk. I'd imagine he'd look a ton like her
post #120046

The thing is though, Besides drawing a few animals here and there
A Black Cat
Canine
And a Money

I have yet to draw anything with scales or a head like that.
As you can see from up there, My art style is still pretty cartoony.
Though with this one, I'm willing to put in twice the amount of work
it takes to push the quality far above my regular doodles!

Got a bit off track there, Sorry about that n_n;
Anyway, I need help understanding how to draw an Anthro lizard.
From how to draw there heads and eyes to how to draw there bodies and legs. I know this is asking for quite a bit but, I've been wanting to draw this for quite a while now and don't really know where to begin.

Any help is very much appreciated =)

Try doing something cartoony if it helps. An easy little drawing without paying much attention to proportions can help you get it out of the way--doesn't need to be your character, could just be a random lizard, dragon, or fish. For the scales, either make some patches of V's, or clusters of darker circles.

Little crossmarks work too.

Edit: Looked up "How to draw scales" and found this neat little thing
It's listed as a "Brush pack" but it's a great thing to look at to see the main methods of quick scales. C's, V's, Circles, and overlapping diamonds.

Practice drawing circles and sketch out the design before you begin working on it. This will help you with every species.

Sigma X has a nice tutorial for scales.

I mostly draw scaly art, and when I first attempted to make furry characters, my attempts turned out goofy looking at best. Then I hit on a rather strange idea: instead of trying to do a brand-new thing, I did one of my standard scaly heads and changed key parts of them, such as the eyes, ears, nose, and of course the addition of fur. The results were better than my earlier attempts.

And if you feel uncomfortable doing scales, just make the skin smooth and don't add any scales. A lot of scaly artists don't usually add them, and yet their art is pretty damn good.

Thanks a ton for the responses, With all your help I just finished up My First Lizard Doodle!

Took @InannaEloah and @Furrin_Gok advice and started of with a very line heavy base (Something I'm familiar with. =)

I do have a few more questions if your willing to bare with me a bit longer. =)
The questions being:
How do you draw a reptile's head in a 3-D space,
How do you draw a Mohawk
and how do you draw fluids/goo that are able to hold there shape?

The character Gellex has a short Mohawk made completely out of semi-transparent goo. I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not sure at all how you show that sorta thing in art inspite of seeing it all the time
in other art pieces. n_n;

How to draw snouts was asked on an art subReddit.

How do you draw a Mohawk

Here's an article on mohawks.

and how do you draw fluids/goo that are able to hold there shape?

A bit more obscure, this is what I found. Looks likke you just want the shapes in place, add like a "Sweat drop" here and there, and then fill it in. Little beads of loose slime or goo would form a darker bit of color, I guess.

Personally I think it came out pretty well but then again,
I am the guy who made it Lol n_n
