Topic: Why does the does "cutie_mark_crusaders" have "_(mlp)" at the end?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

What's the point of such a highly specific tag like "cutie_mark_crusaders" having "_(mlp)" at the end of it? Are we going to accidentally mistake it for all those other cutie mark crusader clubs in other franchises? OH WAIT, there are none...so what's the point of it?

Identification. There is also Twilight_Sparkle_(MLP) , Princess_Luna_(MLP) , Fluttershy_(MLP) , despite them being unique names. Most, if not all, of MLP related stuff have that suffix. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are in My Little Pony. Ergo, the _(MLP) suffix.

At least it is aliased with cutie_mark_crusaders. So whoever wants to search for that can actually find it.

Sometimes disambiguations get in the way of searching. I remember trying to search for mordecai regular_show when I was newer here... took a while to figure it out.

I see Dyrone's point, but it doesn't hurt much.

My thoughts exactly.

Plus, I like the consistency of having the _(mlp) on all mlp tags.

I'm still not sure why there needs to be consistency, only a handful of characters have generic names. I would not be surprised to find more characters aliased from specific names than characters not.

I'm more curious about why this doesn't imply mlp/fim. Is there any reason? If there is then it shouldn't have the mlp suffix in the first place. Although I guess it's pretty hard for this not to almost always automatically get the mlp tag through more indirect ways.

The only thing I could see except for keeping structure would be that some people actively try to stay away from mlp, i.e. blacklisting, and with a suffix that means people could easier blacklist stuff that for some reason doesn't imply mlp. But... it's maybe not a very good reason.
