Topic: [Feature] Posting time adjusted for time zones

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.
Either adjusting upload date/time by local time zone, or including the appropriate fixed time zone initials (which appears to be GMT, 4 hours ahead of EST, 7 hours ahead of PST).

Why would it be useful?
Better management of pictures. E.g. makes daily browsing easier if you know when to stop browsing (to the point of redundancy from yesterday's browse).

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Post metadata (Statistics, Posted ____ ...).

.. so, is posting time currently not in server-time?

Honestly, I find this feature request a little confusing.

currently dates of posts and comments is in server time and zest wants option to have the dates in local time too.

anyways +1 for idea. maybe an option in settings to select your timezone and some sort of toggle if the timestamps are based on server time or timezone you set would be good.

Shuldn't the dates everywhere always be displayed in local time?

It should but the backend we use hasn't been updated in a way that makes this automatic, so we've stuck with server time out of convenience.

It seems to me that the exact time something is posted is a bit of "polishing the cannonball" (that is, more effort than the results justify), and everything based on server time is just fine as long as the server location's time zone is known.

Day, Month, and Year make sense, but does it really hurt to not know which time zone that "8:00am" is in? And heck, I'm not all that sure about the exact day being known being that big a concern, either, though server software from almost back to the beginning of computers is already programmed to worry about it so it's no big thing.

I'm pretty sure our software already supports that, but even if it doesn't making a method for it would be pretty easy to do.
