Topic: Help with Blender

Posted under Art Talk

Hello everyone, first I apologise if my English is not perfect, is not my native language.

I have a question, I have seen some images here of Judy Hopps like this or this which I guess is made with the same model that I use: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/83856

My question is, how I can modified the model already created and modify its clothes, morphology, parts of the body, etc? like the examples I showed

Cheers!

Now, OP, trying to do so, would be climbing into a pit of poo. And editing models is the quickest way to insanity on earth.
If you still want to do this...

1: close blender and open a new one, -> file -> open .. navigate to your downloaded file and before opening it, deselect "load UI" on left panel.
(just putting in here if you open any other where the guy went crazy :p)
If you loaded UI and got text window on the left side, right click line seperating text and 3d view and click "join area". If you got a huge text window now, you lost a 50% gamble ( :D ) and now have to swtich from text editor to 3d view (button is on bottom left of the text editor)
"5" on the key pad, switches between orthographic and perspective view.

2: Expand the hierarchy panel on top right. Everything you need is in the "Judy_rig", clicking the little "+" in front of the group name will expand it.
The icons coming after the group name stand for "eye": you can see this in the editor. "arrow": you can select this and modify. "camera": this will render.
Most of arrows there are disabled, this is to help select the armature when posing.
So, in order to edit the model, you will need to click the arrows you need.

And from here you can figure it out, be yourself :D
otherwise...

2.5 You will probably not be using this rig (or will need to rebuild it?), so you may just delete it, click only "judy_rig" and press that delete button.

2.9. "mesh cage" now lost its function, so, probably delete it, or if you will end up doing the same kind of armature, hide it. (point 2)
Delete eye_boolean object too (fk blender experts, i mean.. WHY?!)

3. Now, isint that much better now? "." on the keypad, with model selected will put camera in confortable orbit.
....take a glass of water :p
Now, if we were to try to edit judys head, (only by moving parts), you will see that it does not affect model after you exit it.

This model is fully controlled by shape keys (are used for facial expressions). These are (will be) in right bottom panel, between hierarchy panel and bottom right panel there are buttons, selecting what right bottom panel will do. Shape keys and other stuff are in object data "The triangle"
You will also notice that they are all purple, that is because they are controlled by yet another system, this time in drivers.
You still have your timeline window (on the bottom). Switch that to "graph editor" (square button on the very bottom left).
Then, on the bottom tool line, there will be a button named "F-curve", switch that over for drivers.
Choice:
1. select one on the left, and with R, G, T (and others) buttons control it.
2. FK EVERYTHING select them and delete them all.
Now that you have chosen 2 (noob lol :p), you can go back to shape key panel (the triangle) and using a slider edit facial expressions.
Also, as the face is no longer locked to a million system, you can edit it.
------------------- And beyond this, is basic stuff, do it yourself lol
The body.
At least these are more ready for intervention. The problem is that there is nothing under the clothes, the model is just a face, hands and feet and clothes.
Probably just delete all clothing items except "uniform_main", add "wireframe" modifier (bottom right panel, bolt screw? icon) Then build a new body with uniform wireframe as a support to guide your hand. Join the hands, feet, face, new body into a single object (select them all, press space and write join). Weld them together and search youtube for basic armature tutorial.

//now that you have to build 90% of the model yourself, why did you even bother editing this? :D

Omg I can't believe it was so simple, you are my hero!

I forgot to say that also have a model of Judy without her clothes, that seems that is made of the same original model: http://i.imgur.com/UxTM7VT.png

So... I just have to add a wireframe to the body to change it?

yea its made out of original model, its just clothes repainted.. you can still see where pants begin. (select that and pop - space -> smooth vertex a couple of times)

"So... I just have to add a wireframe to the body to change it?"
erm, what? I just meant if you were to rebuild the body, it would be easiest to add wireframe so it would be fake-transparent in edit mode (real transparency is not supported in edit mode), making 3d tracing easy.
Of course in that way you are making a new object instead of editing the current one.

...what what? I dont know your blender power level, soo... all objects are edited in edit mode, select it in tool panel below 3d view. Always seen as "object mode" button (maybe i should have mentioned that first, before calling to delete all that armature (idk i find it unusable and overly complex for no reason :D))

Oh, I see

And one last question, is possible to add new textures to parts of the model? For example, change the color to its fur in some parts
