Topic: Following a Generation

What childhood series would you like to see revamped for the older generation, or rather what series did you wish followed the gerneration it started on?

I find it hard to watch tv today because their is little being being made to target that group of people who want to see their childhood characters put into a more serious setting. The only series I can think of right now is the up and coming Samuri Jack final season.(dream come true)I have been looking around for tv shows/movies that were aimed at children but have a more serious slightly graphic nature to them. Children's shows from back in the day had a lot more imagination put into them. I would like to see a rated R/Mature movie that would have that.

I don't really watch TV, so I'm not sure if it counts exactly but, uh, I would love an updated classic Phantasy Star series (I-IV). There have been some...sort-of-remakes for the PS2, but only I and II and the translations aren't official. I would love to play full remakes of I-IV with some more story/background/scenes, etc, to I-III since you were kind of confused about what was happening a lot of the time. IV was pretty spot-on for balance for me and I would be especially stoked to play it remade with today's technology.

For games, Dark Cloud 3. In my patented Nostalgia Hat!, the games were really good (I'd fangasm about it, but that'd contain spoilers and more nostalgia) , and LV5 did say that they were thinking about a DC3. But that was a while back, and the fanbase is slowly losing hope on it...

For shows, I would love to see The Three Stooges. Slapstick comedy at its finest, and nothing could ever take away that part of my past. Unfortunately, kids don't watch slapstick, nor is it produced, and the movie was atrocious. Hell, if you try to show The Robonic Stooges to them, they won't comprehend. So, rest in peace, Moe Howard, Curly Howard, Larry Fine, and Shemp Howard.

Before anyone asks, I watched off Spike TV. It was the Stooges Slap Happy Hour, and that was sometime around eight to ten years ago...

I would love to see the MegamanX series to be rebooted. Capcom has dropped the ball so badly. Everyone gets on 343i messing with Halo. At least they are doing new and fresh things with Halo. Capcom pretty much said screw you and did nothing to keep it going. I found it hilarious that they beat their dead horse so much(Resident Evil)and yet they canceled a prototype first person reboot for the X series. This reboot series was being made by the same people that made Metriod Prime. I never played the game, but I the footage I saw of it was pretty cool.

I do not like Capcom Sam I am
Not with a ham
Or even with well cooked spam

Never heard of it.

That game is pretty cool.

Cool opinions

I can agree with that. Megaman may not work well with the FPS genre.
Seeing anything would be nice.

that would be pretty nice to see. never played PS I much but i've gone through the other 3 numerous times over the years (dark force is one tenacious beast in IV. you kill it and kill it, and kill it, and it just keeps coming back worse and worse.). whoever made the remake would probably want to redo the graphics. >.> yay, old school game with 3d graphics...meh. then again...seeing the profound darkness in 3d...that'd be quite the sight.

oo! VR fight vs the profound darkness. lol

but yeah, theres a lot of old games i'd love to see remade. ristar, the ooze, maybe even comix zone. sonic the hedgehog has it's fandom taking care of it's older games (are they still working on sonic HD?). as for megaman, still got megaman x: corrupted being worked on. (don't mention that bomb, mighty no. 9. -_-) and blood stained for castlevania.

one thing i would LOVE to see more of is first-person RPGs. like the king's field series. you hardly, if, ever see that kind of game. and i don't just mean dungeon crawlers with grid-based movement. no, actual first-person RPG games. *sigh* even on the PC those aren't seen that often. :/ 3rd-person and top-down, yes, but not 1st-person.

That's the thing, I would love to see something with updated graphics, etc, but still holding true to how the game is intended to be. Maybe something akin to FFX, since that was also turnbased and worked just fine and it had its fair share of grotesque enemy designs.

...Maybe some updated character designs as well since they were very, uh, 90's. :p

i just remembered... o_O that's not...hmmm...where did that metroid fan game go to? ah, here it is project AM2R. looks like theres a countdown clock to a release date now. so...yeah, something for metroid fans to check out. iirc it's a remake of the 2nd metroid game.

i'm not sure when i last checked on this project but i guess it's close to it's release time now.

It got a Live Action "reboot", continuing from season four, three years ago, but nothing else that I could find out. Funny thing is, that was my first idea, I don't think I even scratched the surface on it. I'll have to find out if there are episodes that're free and accessible...

Bah, I don't particularly care for the 3D aspect, but at least it curbed my need for the show...

For now.

I've been following this game on and off for the last seven years. When I learned it was finally being released, I was extremely happy. I'm surprised it hasn't been CnD'd and I hope it stays that way until I can download it.

Nintendo should have given Return of Samus the Zero Mission treatment years ago, even if it meant seriously revamping the game to make it more Metroid-like. Super, too, simply because Fusion and Zero Mission are the best controlling 2D games.

to whom it may interest...i still happen to have a copy OF... streets of rage remake. hmmm...looks like the fans said no to that CaD *points to SoR Remake section.

and that reminds me of something else. i think i still have a youtube channel in my subscriptions that has the entire Phantom 2040 cartoon series. i also happen to know of at least 1 banned episode of the series, Ed, Edd, n Eddy as well as something horrible. something so horrible even those who helped make the show didn't want to help with the creation of...the banned episode of Ren & Stimpy that shows their origin story. and yes, it is not easy to watch for it really is a horrible episode (not BAD just...well, it's not as... tame as the show usually is. put it that way.)

I would love to see a more mature Power Ranger series for the older original fans. That show was awesome. I still remember how to do the S.P.D. Suit up routine.

Ah, man. That was an awesome show. I really loved its theme song and also the other tracks that plays.
Now suddenly I have to listen to the music.

I have plenty of others I loved. I will make a later post mentioning some I'd love to return. But alas... I sort of fear any revivals.

My reason is for most of the recent ones brought back into Cartoon Network that absolutely got dumbed down into stupid. I am sure some of you can know what I speak of. Such as Teen Titans...ugh. Welp, there goes tons of personality down the drain. I am not even sure most kids could watch it.

But I am sure some people might actually enjoy it. Likely most of them whom haven't watched the original.

somebody will probably hunt me down and punch me in the face for this but... I like teen titans go. There as far as I'm aware I'm first person to admit that. The original is much better certainly but dammit it makes me laugh.

By wierd I mean infamous shows that only few people liked. Shows that are not well known and under appreciated. I am on a nostagia spree right now.
Looking for things on tv the other people on this site liked "back in the day".

Most accounts say the book is better (then again, don't they always?). I thought the movie was okay but I really want to give the book a try.

I didn't know there was a book, but I do know why people say the book(s) are always a better: imagination is better than actual. Seeing your interpretation of a man, donning gilded armor and wielding a menacing sword, rip out from the darkness a Grue's heart; is better than seeing a man in armor and carrying a sword, reach into the darkness and pulling out a heart. A vivid imagination is better than an enactment of what another person thinks when it comes to storytelling (specifically with books or stories told).

quite true and one reason i like fanfiction. the characters and their world can make a nice "skin" but with a great writer at the helm, the story can make them so much more than the source material when ones imagination comes into play. :)

I would love to see "The pirates of dark water" get rebooted. The series was canceled before it reached it's finale, and that was a real shame.

Hey, from what I actually did see of Federation Force, it is a legitimate Metroid game. There's a reason for the mechanics they put in: These are Federation Troopers, not Samus Aran, so they can't be as overpowered (Hence the limits), and you can't have multiplayer with four Samuses, so they instead give you troopers.

I mean, yeah, there's also the sport mode but that's like, a side-game. I swear if they put that as an important part for the actual gameplay though...

huh, you know come to think of it. i don't know if i've ever seen that entire series before. i know they sure did have some great cartoons in the 80's-90's. it's on my list of things to check out sooner or later. that and swat-kats, ducktales, and some other things.

I'm a huge Metroid fan and love every game except for 1, 2, Hunters, and Other M, but I have to be completely honest: I've barely kept up with Federation Force and I have no strong feelings about it yet. Most of what I've seen and read about has indicated an extremely un-Metroid like experience and I seriously doubt I'll pick it up at full price, if ever.

Other M is not a Prime series game. It's a sequel to Fusion, and is designed around the whole 2D gameplay aspect, just in a 3D world. Most of the time you're running either forward/backward or left/right, without any reason to go in all 360º movement, especially since Samus is given the dodge ability.
Also, when you say "excluding 1 and 2" are you talking about Primes 1 and 2, or the original Metroid and Metroid: Return of Samus? And for that matter, what about Metroid Prime Pinball?

was just looking at some AlphaOmegaSin videos and heres some GREAT (sarcasm) news. pokemon uranium...metroid 2 remake on both fan games...dammit nintendo. ಠ_ಠ WHY?! in what possible way do you benefit from crushing the hopes and dreams of fans of your products? all this does is make people (those making such fan products) suffer.

i can only imagine just how much this hurts the creators of these fan games. to say they felt crushed when this happened would probably be an understatement.

i've only ever seen the english version since i live in the US but iirc it was pretty good from the start...and i pretty much lost interest once all the zord fights were reduced to 1-shot wonder fights where the bad guys go down in around 1-3 hits. past that point it just became boring and dumb largely. but yeah, earlier series (seasons?) were pretty good. might also like to see the space pirates series where they used the powers of previous ranger sets though. that one seemed like it might've been ok.

come to think of it, i think i still have 1-2 vhs tapes with some of the SD series episodes. the episodes about the android rangers (or whatever they were called) i think.

wonder if i could find some of the first few series online somewhere.

as for power ranger video games. if it's not a arcade fighter game (think street fighter style) then no, keep it away from me. yuck, don't think i've ever liked power ranger video games much, if at all.
