Topic: [Feature] Artist list problem – Same artist, different 'entities'

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.

Certain artists have different user names across other sites where they upload,
For example we have the users
ZinZoa https://e621.net/artist/show/24185 (4 posts)
Furry-Bites https://e621.net/artist/show/22295 (20 posts)

This is the same artist, but have two separate tags and wiki pages
I am suggesting to add a link tool for this situations.

Why would it be useful?

1) When we create a new wiki page for an artist but we put their variety of names as a new artist, if the post does not have all the
names, some post are missing in other tag(s) leading to miss information.

2) This also implies that putting all of it's different names may cause confusion whether if the post was a collaboration, gift or trade work.

EXAMPLE https://e621.net/post/show/712044
This post have both tags but one has 4 post and the other 20, leading to a misleading that this is a collaboration

3) This will make a seamless union of the wiki page of the artist and post of all of those usernames who are the same person.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

The separated tags becomes an unique tag and wiki page who host the previous tags as names in the "Other Names" section

Why not just propose an alias to merge the two together in the first place?

While it sounds like a simple solution, I think this may bring even more concerns:

- An artist may not in agreement of making an artificial alias without him/her concern
- This would requiere an additional wiki page and tag just making searching for non-registred users or newcomers more difficult or rather confusing to search
- This would also requiere to edit every single post of the artist to match properly -that's mildly time consuming- rather that requesting and API to link names and clean the wiki of 'clones'

-Aliasing just uses the name that seems to be the most used or best known. It doesn't give them a name the person doesn't already use.
-Anything aliased is linked to the main artist listing entry. Consider this for example.
-Aliasing makes it so that using any name that is aliased will allow for the same results when both tagging and searching. Tagging or searching with my DA or Twitter handle will return the work from my main name as they are both aliased to my main name.

Good example, this is best suited when pre-creating an artist and be aware of this, this example also follows this guideliness.

However what about the created clone pages?
We can create pages but cannot delete it, and while this is the best solution, certain artist will sure to be a pain to edit their entire post tags...

There most be some sort of mass editor...

The tag edit is done automatically for all submission, the wiki pages are usually left alone so they stick around with their information.
