Topic: A Steven Universe-based tagging question

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So, I was looking for images of a character from the television show "Steven Universe" and there were a number of images in my search results that made me raise my eyebrow. My question is this: Is it really appropriate on images of fusion Gems, to include the character tags for the Gems that make up the fusion? I mean, suppose you're looking for one specific character, but don't want to see their fusions...or suppose you've never watched the show, but stumbled upon a picture of one of it's characters, clicked their character tag to see more of them, and suddenly find your search included a solo-character image that does not resemble the character you searched for. In both cases, you'd be pretty frustrated, and in the latter case, you'd likely be extremely confused why-for example-a picture of this "Sugilite" character showed up when you just wanted to see pictures of "Amethyst." And, really, isn't that exactly the sort of scenario TWYS was supposed to be trying to prevent?

....or am I just going on an unnecessary rant about a non-issue, when fusions getting tagged like that are just the result of tag-happy uploaders? XD

Isn't a fusion gem considered a different character to the gems that created it in-universe?

....ish. It's still a little confusing. They kinda' make it sound like both of the original characters are still in there, but there's also this new, third presence that they can get lost in if they stay fused for too long.

To me, listing the gems that make a fusion gem alongside the fusion gem would be like listing Goku and Vegeta in every image featuring Gogeta.

What did we do?
I think we made something
Entirely new
And it wasn't quite me
And it wasn't quite you
I think it was someone
Entirely new"

Even by in-universe standards it would be inappropriate to tag fusions as their constituent parts. By TWYS, the issue is even more clear: Definitely don't.

I mean, it seems like common sense to me, but I've done numerous tag changes before based on things that seemed like common sense, and gotten warnings for them, so...I'd really prefer to get a staff ruling on this'n, so nobody can call it tag vandalism if I go on a de-tagging spree...^_^;

So...anyone from the staff want to chime in on this one?

I'm not too familiar with Steven Universe, but if it is like BlueDingo and Clawdragons said, then it'd make sense to just tag the fusion.
