Many artist tags don't have wikis associated with them
(artist wiki = the place with a list of gallery URLs)

Is it just laziness, or do people not know about this feature?

Some people aren't good at writing wiki entries and prefer to leave it to people who are good at it.

Artist pages make sense if there's anything to put there. Like more than one gallery url, some additional info. Otherwise, there's no point.

And galleries should not require human attention at all in most cases, at least not the way it's done now. Filtering source urls to get clean ready to use gallery urls can be done with a simple script for most source sites (FA, DA, Weasyl, whatever).

Also, some people apparently prefer gallery urls in the source field.

You can tag an artist without a wiki, actually. Simply write "Artist:Artist's_Name_Here" without the quotes into the tags on any upload and the site will list the artist's name in the appropriate area of the tags list.

I know this because I only created my wiki earlier today, but I have been using this system to tag my art since I joined the site.

and i just remembered something. should links to pics rather than profile pages be excluded? cause i've seem many artist tags have links to both a profile and/or a pic and it wouldn't show up correctly.

They should all be aliased together, anyways. Not everybody knows to look at the artist page and will tag whichever name they found.

The code could be extended to update the wiki, but I'm lazy and I don't trust my coding ability that much.
Anyway, my point: no human intervention necessary.

The second example is a missing wiki page. Those links are e6 suggestions, not something users put there. Bad suggestions mind you, but still not human mistakes.
