Topic: BVATS and irrelevant to site

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So for posts that were grandfathered in, should we just not bother uploading a better file? post #1045726 and post #1045613 were better files I found of two older, yet irrelevant pictures on the site, so I uploaded them and flagged the older versions. The older versions get deleted per the flags and the new posts get deleted for irrelevancy. I kind of expected this to happen and I'm not asking for the posts to be restored - just a little clarity on whether or not it's safe to upload better versions of older posts of this nature.

I'd say don't bother. There's no point in uploading the better one now if you know it's going to be deleted and the older one is protected.

I thought the new posts would be kept. tbh though I think all irrelevant posts should be deleted, not grandfathered in. Having your uploads get deleted isn't a punishment, so there's no reason not to. If the upload limit formula were a bit more flexible, we could exclude deletions like this from the formula altogether.

and more recent ones like post #972013 somehow slip through.

Dwarves, gnomes, and elves are still considered relevant under the current rules.

We usually grandfather them in as long as they are sufficiently old. The one with that mlp girl is old enough, that creeper one isn't.
Also, sometimes it's flat out not visible that they get replaced. In the case of the first one Slyroon deleted the old one as inferior but didn't bother to approve the new one. This means that when Cat-in-flight deleted it it was either no longer visible that it had an inferior version at all, or he didn't check the child posts, something I wouldn't do either.

If you do something like this it's best to leave a comment for us so we can actually see that it's a replacement in the first place.
