Topic: Why do you downvote posts?

Posted under Off Topic

This topic has been locked.

So I've recently noticed some artwork that's REALLY good, but the content is either CTF (Cock Transformation), or violent, and that these are most commonly downvoted, sometimes into the hundreds. So my question is why do people downvote because of content instead of just using the blacklist?

Because people are too lazy to learn about the blacklist.
Alternatively:

  • People downvote when a image is shown and it isn't blacklisted because the image isn't tagged right.
  • Because they intentionally search for posts on their blacklist to downvote.

Regardless, people are allowed to upvote/downvote for whatever reason as long as they don't game the voting system(Using alts to get multiple votes).

Also don't we already have one of these threads?] im dumb thats about comments not posts

I always imagine an inverse for "negative" imagery, for instance post #1070131 may have some downvotes because the contents therein are fairly... invoking for people who like either character, and for those who feel sympathy for one or both.

Said inverse is: the artist knows that they will get negative feedback for the image they drew. It may not be because the image is bad, instead it is the contents therein disturbs them. Ergo, said downvotes imply that you did a good job disturbing people. This applies to both troll images and (hypothetically, I can't see downvotes) images that bring negative emotions, and there is no inverse on the upvote side; upvotes imply that you like the image (content and overall are regarded as one), downvotes can imply that you either don't like the image, or the contents therein.

This is for specific images. But that falls to opinion, so I will hold my tongue because I don't want to rant on opinion...

Funnily enough, I have an answer to people who presume they need to tell others exactly how they should use the voting system.

The following was recorded from a record given to user 'IsteltheDragon,' ID#8718 before the neutral record was wiped.

Hello, you must be new here. First lemme clear a few things up; the "Voting" system is merely a system in place for the individual user to express weather they like, or dislike a picture; this is not DA nor FA, and their is no obligation to give "Criticism" of any sort, this is an image archive, not an "Art" site, such as DA or FA.

"Too lazy to black!ist" is one of the most hilariously passive-aggressive ways to discount an opinion. I like the system of 'vote however you want without demonstrably malicious.'

As for the 'why,' you know why. The big four are subject matter (voraphiles and the caprophages are most targeted), artist (rude artists, or ones shit-talking something), quality (typically selfevident), or outside input like the description or drama surrounding the submission (Patreon associations come to mind most readily).

I sometimes downvote posts is when something is very lazily done, often lazily animated and yet it is getting a significant positive response.

It's my way of silently saying "No, goddangit, this isn't worth that many upvotes, it's completely broken and lazy!"

To be fair, when I see something getting an unfairly negative response, I am likewise more likely to upvote it than I would be otherwise.

Other than that, when there's something about a post I find distasteful but there's no way to blacklist that particular element, I'll downvote it. This comes in to play particularly for images involving a human and a feral where the dialogue or presentation is "women degrading themselves with lesser beasts". I hate that attitude.

There will always be things you don't like escaping your blacklist simply because it doesn't contain anything you have blacklisted (or can blacklist in some cases). That's one of the reasons why I use downvotes as a pseudo-blacklisting feature. Examples:

Fair enough.

Wasn't there just a thread on this? Is this a regular thing?

I downvote something if I think it deserves a downvote, and feel so inclined.
