Topic: Boston Marathon Bombed!? D:

Posted under Off Topic

Well, damn.

One of those reason one shouldn't attend large events where media is, the higher the exposure, the more likely something happens.
Then again, the chance is still minuscule.

Updated by anonymous

Its a shame, both that people died, and the small number that did.

Updated by anonymous

Holy fur, did it happen for real? I thought it was made up or probably a false alarm or something.

Yeah, it bothers me when it happens closer to home and suddenly people give a fuck.

I'm actually pretty heartless. I don't give a fuck regardless of where anything happens, but it is kind of dumb how when something happens to white America, it's more of a tragedy than anything else. Even the holocaust isn't as tragic to americans as 9/11.

I disagree, not everyone (me included) doesn't care that much, so much to act as a drama queen. Reports of bombs going off, few to no people died, and everyone blames anything that makes sense seems like nothing new to me.

The less frequently something happens, the more shocking it is when it does happen.

Just got a call from my friend who was running in the Boston Marathon. He said they had a blast and he can't feel his legs.

Glad to hear he's having a good day.

It's called the Monkeyphere. It is literally impossible for me to feels the same about those people because if I did, I'd spend every waking moment of my life as a nervous, sobbing ball in my bed.

Welcome to Iraq, you can cook your eggs by listening for the explosions.

And if you're trying to one-up things, why not post about africa where a couple thousand people starve every minute because they rather grow cotton, rapeseed oil and cows for us than food for themselves?

But I hope you also feel sad for Tibet, south korea, the people living in north korea, every person who is waiting and probably dieing for an organ, widows and orphans of war in africa, the lower class in the old soviet lands who are only slightly above starvation, random people who spilled their milk, the 20k people in fukushima still living in quarantine, the people who have to make a living by mining sulphur inside a volcano (Ijen, Indonesia) for a couple years before their lungs are burned and corroded from the gases to something closer resembling swiss cheese then an organ, all just because the western world thinks it is cheaper than using proper equipment.

Way to show your sympathies for only one group.

NMNYM, yes, all of that. My point is it pisses me off to have my twitter and facebook feeds drown in prayer vigils and supportive sketches and "oh god how could this happen to good people why is there such evil in the world" and dates/times/places suddenly becoming catchphrases (like "9/11"), when the actual events are miniscule in the face of everything else.

Yes, mourn them, pray for them, donate money/blood, whatever you want to do, but get some fucking perspective and stop acting like the sky just fell in because a bunch of people got caught in a medium-size explosion when half of the rest of the world is tearing itself to pieces.

Perspective. I want people to have perspective.

It may surprise you, but we live in North America, so we care what happens here first. I'm Canadian, and I care more about the Boston bombs then some middle eastern people killing middle eastern people, AGAIN.

I would care about "the world tearing itself to piece" when the areas themselves do to

I bet most of those in here have that perspective already, yet there is no point in saying "Man the fuck up, you pussy, there are more people dying somewhere else, nobody cares about a bomb in your neighbourhood."

And talking about perspective, Iraq is nearer to me than the USA, in Iraq the people bombing themselves are religious fanatics who target innocents, in Boston some (or more) idiots targeting innocents, does this mean I can't give my condolences to those in Boston as well as to those in Iraq? Do I have to play favourites based on how far they are? Do I have to be a "condolences hipster" and only feel sorry for those who had a bombastic evening before everyone else?

Settle down there, Gandhi. People like you piss me off. You're just a cynical, callous ass who pretends you're better than everyone else.

This is not the time for a pissing contest! This is not the time for finger pointing! This is a time to reach out and help our felling human being, not yell that other people have it worse!

You want some perspective!? There's some perspective!

Now, can we all stop with this pointless bickering and start banding together to help each other! Setting each other at odds is not going to do a fucking things!

Human beings are suffering right now and to basically say their problems don't matter because they "don't live someplace else", makes you look like a FUCKING ASSCLOWN!

I'm sorry, I didn't know slapping down people who think they're better than others for missing the issue was sensationalize.

This is not the time to put ourselves at odds with each other. These bullshit comments that "other people have it worse" do nothing but make those who say it make them feel like they're more enlightened. I hate those people.

Regardless of your point, linking graphic images as your only proof IS sensationalizing

A picture is worth a thousand words. I can tell you about what happened, but nothing will give quite the same impact as seeing it (other than being these). So, no. It's not sensationalizing it. This is something that happened and it's the reality of the situation.

I've said my side. If all of you want to bicker back and forth and divide yourselves, have at it. I'm sure those people you use in your pissing matches who have it so rough take kindly to the fact they are only used as fuel for your own ego.

A number of bombs were also defused, so it's also possible that the cops managed to get to the time delayed ones before they went off. After all, competent bomb units would or should know about time delays.

This is only a guess, though.

Well, yeah, that's sort of a core element of the site: Every admin is a little microcosm of conflicting standards that get applied on a first-come-first-purged basis.

Updated by anonymous

Well when you think about it, 4Chan has way more manpower visiting their site on a daily basis than everyone currently investigating what happened. Give them pictures of the area and the details and it's pretty much guaranteed that someone is going to notice something, and once that happens and they share it you suddenly have this enormous influx of feedback and research that leads to results.

Don't be stupid: Any asshole can look closely at a photo, and if we had as many people working in the FBI as we have dicking around on 4chan, we'd have no budget left for military, roads, trade, or, y'know, the entire fucking government.

There are things that police can do better than civilians; There are things that civilians can do better than police. This is not news.

I'm given to understand (though I can't recall the source) that the characteristics of the explosions indicated some amateur mistakes (shitty and/or wet explosives, much of the blast was directed upwards).

The "boston_bombings" tag, combined with Mr. Blacklist, would solve the problem of people whining about things they don't want to see.

Oh no, we can't do that, because it might actually involve some work...

Oh no, this won't do that because actual tag was boston_marathon_bombing, and you can't blacklist *boston*, so good luck guessing which tag to add without looking at the picture. (Also tag history shows that this tag was removed before picture was deleted.)

Besides it was probably not destroyed, but deleted and can be undeleted at any time. My guess is that if reason for deletion would be "Does not meet quality standards", or even "Krillin... Too soon!" nobody would give a fuck.

The explosion in Texas has already claimed over 40 lives, this isn't reported as much as the 3 deaths in Boston because "it wasn't terrorists". Uh, people still died, a lot actually.

Also, not Waco, it's West, Texas. Not to be confused with west Texas, the city is called west.

Yeah, but "industrial accident" isn't nearly as ratings-grabbing as "terrorist attack". Isn't the modern media wonderful?

Updated by anonymous

I'm at this point just trying to provide relevant info/updates:
The FBI says they have a video that shows one of the suspects leaving a bag at the second explosion site. Through other videos and images, they determined that the other guy was likely associated with him.

The reason that they haven't released the video of him dropping the bag is likely so they can use it during questioning to compare to the suspect's story. Releasing it could make it hard to use as evidence.

Sooo... I just read that the police got one of the two guys who dropped the bass bombs. Apparently (and I emphasize "apparently") they were russian. The dude, who was 19 years old, was hiding inside a covered boat, and his brother was shot earlier that night (dunno if he's still alive). Both were taken to the hospital

as far as the note I read said

I heard about some pretty serious stories about cops just busting right on in to people's houses and searching them and their house under duress; Now I know this is an "emergency" and what have you but it sets a dangerous pretense for the future.
