Topic: Hey I'm new and very nervous.

Posted under Art Talk

I hope I'm putting this in the right place, Excuse me if I didn't.
So I'm a pixel artist and I want to try to make NSFW pieces and possibly work up to a game with sexual content. I know pixel art isn't very popular when it comes to pornography but it's what I'm best at, Is there any hints or tips you could give me? I'm currently using Mspaint and am going to use Aseprite for animations. Is it okay to post a link to my art? http://steamcommunity.com/id/420MLGGAM3R/images/ If not I'll remove this link, Sorry reading all the rules has made me very nervous about posting here because I don't want to break any of them.

My advice is to use Photoshop or GIMP instead. Pixel Art tends to get a lot of lossy compression in MS Paint, resulting in artifacts in an image where every pixel matters.

This also allows layers and transparency.

If the price is the problem, GIMP is free.

In addition to the above, Paint.NET is also an option.

Before you actually start any work on a game, you should really just work towards improving your art.
Your palettes are overly simplistic, and the default MS Paint palette is no good (the orange is really weird, for example). The color choices on Tracer are a step in the right direction, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.
Almost all of your characters just look really samey. They're all standing in the exact same pose with shoulders resting at perfect right angles, impossibly wide thigh gaps, and a lot of them just look really uncomfortable.
Your fire looks more like a lollipop, as the color gradation just doesn't look anything like fire.

I'll be honest. Most of that stuff under link looks like what I used to create with my really old black/white screen nokia phone, which happened to have tool to create picture messages from scratch. These things.

Meaning they look like basic shapes created by using outlines and then bucket filled. They look like ms paint doodles, not pixel art. If you are trying to create pixel art using that restricted resolutions (~24px), you usually don't use outlines and try to create as rich details as possible with color palette in use. Even with larger resolutions outlines usually blend in with images color palette as well.

Posting stuff to steam feels bit weird. Was also about to say that do you really want your face to be connected to explicit content, before seeing that your nickname here seems to be your real name.

MS Paint does allow saving as BMP and PNG. However that still isn't designed to create pixel art, so creating good pixel art will become painful with that limited toolset. Adding alpha channel is easy afterwards, but it's true that ms paint does not support that.

Thanks for lookin' out for me, I don't mind my face being shown as I feel it would be better for people to know who their content is coming from, I do look young however I am of age to create this sort of content.

Honestly actually reading all the rules puts you above most users, I think.

Animations are very popular in erotica, whether they're pixel art, Flash, or traditional. The only catch is that it's harder to make a fluid pixel art porn animation than tweening in Flash.

Keep drawing and keep improving!

Even though I like GIMP, I wouldn't necessarily say that PS or GIMP are the way to go, just that there are things better suited to pixel art than MSPaint. Aseprite is definitely a good one, but I'd suggest checking out some of the alternatives listed here, if you haven't already. Personally, I've used both GrafX2 and (GIMP + GIMP-GAP plugin) for making pixel art animations.

This stuff is all true but perhaps could be said in a 'bigger-picture' way: Pixel art is mostly just art, optimized for a small resolution, ie. 95% of the quality of the result comes from general art knowledge, 5% from 'specific pixel art techniques' like AA, dithering and limitation of outlines.

Yeah but I would just drop the first name Hawkins 1) is cool and fits here 2) is the name of the kid from the treasure planet movie. So that could help out too.
