is too common to use as an artist tag. Besides being a common name, it's the Japanese word for 'red'.
There's other artists who transliterate as akai. Such as あかい. I don't know if we have any art from him here, but it seems relevant to site and might be posted sooner or later - http://rule34.paheal.net/post/view/1863400 (Poképorn warning).

If it's of any interest to anyone - akai is red as an adjective, and aka is the color's name. The two characters in this artist's name are "aka" as in "red" and "i", as in "well". So the name would be written as akai (or akagi), but that writing is a reasonably common proper name, not an apparent attempt to be clever.
