It's possible to view comments on deleted posts normally by using any part of the comment search.

What is the expected behavior?

Comments should not show up for normal users.

What actual behavior is given instead?

Comments are shown.

Since ~2007 until now.

Search for anything a post ID in the comments section.

Sometimes there're some useful or otherwise good comments that would just be plain gone because the post happened to be replaced by a superior version, were it not for this trick to still be able to find them back, and other times it's just fun to, like, read up on a shitstorm you've (partially) missed.

I mean, it's not how the site should actually behave, but has it being there really ever hurt anyone?

The exacts of this are being discussed. It's undecided if we're pursuing hiding of comments on deleted posts or something else.

I've found that I can read my own comments on deleted posts this way just by searching for all comments by me or containing my name. I thought it was a feature.

Yeah, reading comments seems like a feature. I'd think it should go the other way around, showing the comments on the deleted post itself, just removing the add comment box at the bottom.

unless the comment has been hidden (by the commenter or by a moderator)

+1, I'd prefer if the comments of deleted posts are preserved and easily accessible, personally. If there's ever an issue of comments breaking the rules, the mods/admins can hide them, right?
