forum #235250 - Obtaining the highest-resolution images from Tumblr

If I understand this correctly, only tumblr posts with width:1280 and/or height:1920 can have a _raw version.
But not all tumblr posts with width:1280/height:1920 actually have one.

So it would be nice if there were a no_raw_tumblr tag.
If you're going through tumblr posts with width:1280/height:1920 and you find one that *doesn't* have a _raw version, then just add the no_raw_tumblr tag.

This will save people from wasting time by checking if this post has a _raw version.

Posts where the _raw version has the same dimensions, but a different number of kilobytes, should probably not get this tag. Maybe another tag, like raw_tumblr_different_dimensions raw_tumblr_same_dimensions

+1 to the idea in this post. I'm not sure if we should make a "no raw tumblr" tag but, rather, possibly a "highest resolution available" tag. Would fit with "*blank* at source" tags and also be more universal.

In theory sounds good, but it also sounds like it could cause a mess with tags.

How long should it remain on posts? Until we deem this to be over? Forever? Tags like bvats are removed upon the post being replaced, but if there's no raw version available I imagine these images are going to stay indefinitely.

EDIT: alternatively, a set could work and not require the cleanup afterwards. Only problem is you would have to add all the maintainers manually.

I'm starting to suspect that for all _1280 posts with a _raw version, the _1280 and the _raw version have different file sizes.
Sometimes only a few bytes.
If someone can find a counterexample, I'd love to see it.

So we have tumblr posts that
- don't have a _raw version
- have a _raw version, but it's identical to the _1280 version
- have a _raw version, and the filesize is different from the _1280 version, but the dimensions are the same
- have a _raw version, and both filesize and dimensions are different from the _1280 version (dimensions are larger, filesize doesn't have to be)

I feel like this will just clog up the tag list unfortunately. Just let the people decide for themselves, similar to how we have tags that show that an image is the biggest available size, nobody actually uses them, and prefer to just look for themselves it seems, especially if we add 4 new long winded tags.
