Topic: My post was removed

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Recently I uploaded a slightly larger version of an older picture, and tagged the old smaller one for deletion, but mine got deleted in the end. Now I'm confused what happened? Was it not enough of an improvement or was it against the rules?

pic in question: original and new (deleted)

I just looked and your larger version looks worse.

To determine this I opened both and zoomed in to a corner, and scaled them to about 1:1. 300% for the old image, 250% for yours. Yours has more artifacts.

size is not everything, the quality matters too. yours had high jpg compression while the smaller one is png that has better quality.

Like those that has already been stated above, your(or the commissioner's) version has visible image artifacts if you've zoomed in close enough, it would look a bit pixelated around the edges if they were resized.

Thus even though your post has a higher resolution, it has a lower quality and file size(probably from the resizing).

Thanks, I understand it now. I'll get a better look at larger versions before uploading them in the future.

And this is why I have been raging over FA for some time now.

That JPG upload was actually furaffinity downscale, so it was originally larger PNG, which FA compressed to 85 quality, 1280px JPG. I would sincerely hope that also artists would realize that this is essentially destroying their artwork and if they don't want original resolution to public, simply do downscaling manually yourself as anything is better from FAs method.

And like others already stated, because of this quality drop was so significant that raise in resolution was not enough to justify it to be superior.

Thanks, from now on I'll try to find better versions on other (non DNP) sites instead of FA.
