Topic: appropriate use of sarcastic English-correcting tags

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

when you see an image with a spelling or grammatical error, somebody might correct it with a note on top, for instance something like "your" instead of "you're". the note is usually in all-caps.

i think most people are good enough English readers to not need the extra text, and besides this appears to be mocking the original artist for not being born into the right language, so to speak. it's not as funny as engrish, which makes me wonder the purpose of the note-correcting exercise. of course there are English speakers who are bad at English, but should we call more attention to them?

do you think it's beneficial to the site to add in and maintain these notes?

i'm going to use my note as an example because i'm guilty of this too

It's a two edged sword. While it might be redundant for good english readers and might pull attention towards artists who aren't good at english, it does help unexperienced english readers who might not be able to fully understand the image with the mistakes in place.
As long as they're factual corrections and aren't mocking in tone I have no issue with them. If someone makes a note where they mock the artist I'd deal with it like any other form of harassing or insulting behavior.
