Topic: e621 is nominated for an award! (Again!)

Posted under General

This topic has been locked.

About a month late on announcing this (whoops) but e621 got nominated for an Ursa Major award again! The category we are nominated in is "Best Website". This year, we are competing against FurAffinity, The Furry Writers' Guild, WkiFur, and Culturally F'd.

Last year, we got nominated and got 2nd place and was beat out by FurAffinity by 103 total votes BUT we had the most 1st place votes out of all the other nominees.

Voting is still open and will stay open until April 16th. You can vote and check the other nominees here. Let's end FurAffinity's win-streak with a heavy dose of e621.

So we need about 18g of e621 per kg of Furaffinity's weight. How much does Furaffinity weigh?

So we just gotta throw a sick tree at them?

Eyyyyyyyy, about a month late to the news! Xd

Nice to see e6 getting some recognition again, here's hoping that we bag this year's award.

Voted.
I hadn't realized how underwhelming year 2016 was. ...most nominees are utter garbage.

Not sure how reliable Alexa is these days, but we've bypassed FurAffinity a couple of months ago in their rankings. e621 is currently ranked at 4467th, and FA has fallen to 7276th.

See now this is why it would be nice to be able to upvote forum comments. The feature would be bad overall but that was... Seriously, good one, mate.

It would've been better if it said chuck a sick tree.
Because chuck a sickie is a thing.

I'd like to thank the Academy of Anthropomorphic Arts and Sciences for this great honor.

It's easier than making an account. All you do is put an email address in, receive a key in about a minute, and login with the key on the same page.

Best Motion Picture

Have you noticed that every possible occasion gets tons of Zootopia fanart? The Oscar win, and now Easter? What I'm saying is that when Zootopia wins this category, we should see twisted versions of the Oscar art with Nick and Judy receiving their bear dildo statues.

CSI: Fur Fest; The Unsolved Case of the Gas Attack at a Furry Convention

You haven't made it big until you've suffered your first chemical terror attack. Link.

Goddamn, I wish I'd thought of that.
We don't say "Chuck a sickie" over here, but "Chuck" is a word that can be used as saying to vomit, rather than just to toss. Hurl is the same way.

Yup. It's really very easy.

I suppose the guy is a bit like me. I don't want to be bothered by registering to use something you can find elsewhere. In terms of voting, a security measure makes sense, though.
E6 is just that good so I register here.

I'll vote, but I want to try to read some of the fiction first so I don't waste my vote on those categories voting for "None".

That's one thing that confused me at first. You had to vote two of them as "None", I didn't know that and I had to fix it

You might want to vote now. First post in the thread says voting is open until the end of the month but the website says it ends tomorrow.

Sweet mercy, I could've sworn I saw April 30th. My mind is trippin'

Oh boy, we're once again competing in the Special Olympics against the reigning champ, Furaffinity.

Sure can't wait to see how THIS turns out.

It seems to me that there are some inconsistencies regarding the vote end date.

On the sidebar it still says, "Voting for 2016 March 13 – April 30".

But on the nominees page, it says "Voting for the 2016 Awards is open and runs from March 13 to April 16, 2017."

and when you're actually voting, "You may add to or change your votes any time until close of voting on April 15th."

and while on their tweet, https://twitter.com/UrsaMajorAwards/status/853014841983946752 .

Glad to have your enthusiastic support again this year. We would've been blown out without it last year

89 extra votes really does help.

Looks like we have to wait two and a half months for the results.

How the fuck did Major/Minor win the game category? That game sucked (I know because I regrettably impulse purchased it on Steam).

Oh, and yeah, looks like we came in second again. Damn shame.

I'll blame TheHuskyK9 for getting the vote-by date wrong.

I like this:

Runners-up were:
E621, Furry fandom art community site. MATURE AUDIENCES.

Also CSI: Fur Fest; The Unsolved Case of the Gas Attack at a Furry Convention nevar forget

Two possibilities
1. FA got mentioned in the mainstream somehow and peeps flocked towards them
2. A convention

A site doesn't just jump ranks from 8000+ to 1200 in within a day.

It looks like somebody shelled out a whole bunch of money a year to have the site ranking certified, which boosted the ratings on alexa. Note that their listing is marked as certified, which means they paid to have alexa use a page tracker. At the scale that e6 operates at it would cost at minimum 800$ per month to get a certified rating.

Attempted DDoS, maybe? At least I hope the FA mods are learning how to respond to site attacks more competently than before.

Anyway, e621 losing to FA isn't good, but if Major/Minor is winning awards too, the only explanation is that someone stuffed the ballots.

Alternately, it was likely the only game that most voters had heard about. 2016 was not a good year for furry games.

(2017 seems better. Angels With Scaly Wings, Night in the Woods... I suppose Yooka-Laylee counts too. And Shiness.)

The runners up included Pokemon Sun/Moon and Overwatch. Maybe not the most "furry" games out there, but they do have anthros, and they're a lot better known. And, well, developed by competent people.

Also don't forget Hollow Knight, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Ever Oasis, and for things that just got announced at e3, the new Ori sequel and the long awaited official release of Star Fox 2. I haven't played either myself, but frankly Angels with Scaly Wings doesn't seem any better to me than Major/Minor

Yeah, I saw that - but in fairness, .net is so 2002. Perhaps if anyone had noticed and mentioned the nomination, it might have been spotted and corrected!

But all the previous nominations are just "E621" and none of the other nominees have their TLDs next to them

Updated by anonymous

For the 2016 Awards it looks like they left the nomination from 2015 because it's different to the 2016 recommended list entry for e621. AFAIK they use static pages and copy them over for a new year (I saw occasional date issues before), so it's trivial just to leave it.

For 2017 it looks like the text was instead copied from the 2017 recommendations page (which has "art, discussion etc."), either by ALAA or the nominator, and they transposed .net into .com while typing it. Honest mistake; I think it's one person updating it, and maybe they don't use e6 so wouldn't spot it.
