I guess some of the stuff on *chan threads could be drawfag stuff, but if not, it should only take a few seconds.

I'm trying to get out of that habit of lazy sourcing. Work in progress here

I have to admit that I have never understood why ippiki is so possessive about source links. And I have a long-standing disagreement with the view that the artist's page is a better source than the image page.

.........sure that's where you found it but that doesn't necessarily mans that the picture/flash derived from there..

It's just lazy sourcing.

Would it be too hard to take a few seconds to find out where the image originally came from?

If none found, tag it at source_request

Sure... sometimes. I would even say rarely. Perhaps once in a blue moon.

I think it's a valid point, though, to criticize folks who habitually cross-post from their favorite other aggregation site and never try to find the original source.

Same. We have the artist page in the wiki, so why source it over the actual image page?

I see people use other booru-type sites as sources.

It makes my brain hurt.

Okay, filename was a joke

I knew that exists (except filename) ;)
The one I posted happened a lot on the computer I'm right now which is pretty old (WinXP 32bit, 40+3GB HDD, 256MB RAM) when viruses were transmitted via USB Stick drive

I HATE THAT DAMN VIRUS!! Blocks task manager, regedit, services.msc, showing of hidden/system files. It's the most annoying virus I've seen >_<

I make it a point to make sure the source of absolutely everything I post is of the picture page, and is as accurate as possible (eg /full/).

As far as I am concerned, there are only 2 good reasons to list the source as the artist's page over the picture's page:

1) The original post has been deleted so there IS no picture page to link to.
2) The original picture was posted on a commissioner's page, and the artist did not post it in their own gallery.

There is a bookmark that let's you upload pictures by simply opening the pic and then clicking the bookmark, that'll bring you to the upload page and automatically fill in the source-line.

If you're a lazy person you leave the source as is, if you aren't you have to edit it afterwards manually.

Problem is it makes finding the art's Tumblr a freaking hassle.
I'm trying to find where cold blooded twilight's Tumblr is, but I can't cause people are lazy.

Also, reverse imagesearch if things don't want to show up, tumblr is quite well indexed in most databases.

Yeah, tumblr is well indexed, but since people can just upload an artist's picture themselves, if you don't know the artist's tumblr, you might be looking through a few different tumblrs before you find the right source.

That or navigate through 3621 notes to get to the source random number, but you get the idea not so random, actually, you'll get it

Why? I understand if you have some tool* that helps you upload things, and linking the artist's page as the source is easier for programming; but at least let US update and specialize the source for the convenience of everyone else.
In fact, the very rules explicitly state: https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=howto%3Asource

Below is a list (in preferential order) on where you should source to.
1: The artist's submission page, website section or blog post where the file can be located.

Why do you get unhappy with people who want to follow the rules??? Even Aurali just said "unspecific" sourcing is stupid.

-

*Not sure if you actually DO have an uploading tool, you said you have one but I suck at sarcasm over the internet

I'm not sure the second reason is valid. If the picture isn't posted on the artist's page I would post the picture's URL in the commissioner's gallery.

Because that's where you found it. And that's what counts.

Oh yeah, good point. In that case, yeah, there is only ONE good reason to only list the artist's page as the source, as opposed to the picture's page.

You know that those 25.media links seem to never be deleted? If you have this link for a long dead tumblr it still works.

NotMeNotYouMobile said:

That doesn't work all the time. I am still look for the original source for a couple images they tend to source back to a rule34 site, another booru or here. Then all you have to go on to find the artist is if they had a signature. Now if only we could get a signature search feature here that you can just search signatures with.

Updated by anonymous

At least use Google Image source to try and find the artist of of imane, and if that fails, use source_request

Molestia said:
really? the source link is right in the picture, and you have to source Rule34?

Okay, fine...

Updated by anonymous

The problem is that FurAffinity and I think someother sites like it have somehting called a robots.txt.
Essentially, Reverse Image search WILL NOT search FurAffinity, and any other site with a robots.txt.

It sucks, I know.

If we're talking about bad sources, then worse than tumblr is direct link to picture on Inkbunny which gives 403 error.

fa does the same thing... e621 on the other hand directs you to a page that will direct you to the post page if it's not a hot link.
