Topic: Upload limits and whatnot

Posted under General

Hello,

New to uploading, there's an artist named semi that has about ~300 good pieces that no one has put up here. I'd like to dump them all, but I'd really prefer not to have to come back every day for a month to upload them. How do I get my upload limits increased?

If art dumping is frowned upon, please let me know.

kthx

i do believe the upload limit is ten per hour to start out with. had it been ten per day, i wouldn't have been able to dump all my uploads.

if you upload ten per hour, and they're all approved (as most art is), you can upload eleven the next hour, and then twelve. when you reach an upload limit of fifteen, you'll already have uploaded fifteen more images than the base limit allows, and by a limit of twenty you will have uploaded 165, sixty-five more.

of course they usually are not approved within the hour, but they still are approved at some point. if you're planning for the long term, you can try to upgrade your account, whatever arcane arts are required to do so.

You can post anything here on e6, provided they meet the uploading guidelines and not on the avoid posting list .

Also something to note, while it isn't necessary, it's a good idea to acquire the artist's permission/consent before dumping their artwork here. Some artists don't take unauthorized reposts likely and will most probably takedown/delete all of them if they find out.

Depends on how fast they get approved. All pending posts use up an upload slot, so if your limit is ten and you already have ten pending posts, then all you can do is wait.

Might take minutes to be approved, or might take days. Depends a lot on the quality and how relevant they are.

Mass posting is not encouraged. I'd recommend starting with some choice picks, and seeing if those get approved.

Really? I don't I've ever got in trouble for doing it, besides the time I uploaded a doujin too early. Though that was an issue of paid content, not post spam.

Upload Limit = 10 + (approved / 10) - (deleted / 4)

By mass posting, I meant posting hundreds of same thing in quick succession. That's been frowned on after the eroborus fiasco.

For the uninitiated this was upload spam that was to such a degree that the artist himself had the art taken down because it was clogging the Posts page from top to bottom.

takedown #2506
takedown #3042

It's discouraged, because that usually means that uploader is focusing on uploading the stuff they have, instead of actually taking time to tag, source and check if there's better versions before uploading, which means that not only there will be spam of content, but also that content is most likely badly tagged and requires insane amount of work from other users.

Also another thing to consider if thinking of uploading insane amount of single artists art, at that point it would be nice to ask if it is OK with them - before it comes to attention they are not, they use takedown and now all the work you have done is for nothing and everyone is mad.

Oh wow, that's... a lot more responses than I expected.

Sounds like picking 10 good ones a day will actually be a good strategy then, will do. Hopefully the guy speaks English, I'll send him something on pixiv.

Thanks a bunch all.

Here's a couple tips: Keep it simple, and ask in negative. "Hello. I was wondering if I couldn't get permission to repost to e621.net?" is my generic send. If they respond 「いいえ」, your request for no permission was denied, meaning yes, you can post.
However, if they respond "No" without any clarification, ask for clarification. English has a reputation for ignoring negatives, but at the same time, some artists hadn't heard of it.

Oh, I do ask for permission before uploading an artist's gallery.

Hahah, I upset an artist by doing that despite having permission. Definitely spread it out a bit through time.
