For whatever reason [part]_hair and hairy_[part] tags are popular one way or the other

For standardization sake, we probably ought to choose a single format.

I'd vouch for "hairy_[part]", since it emphasises that there's a notable amount of hair on whatever part.

I'd vouch for "[part]_hair" because there's not necessarily the amount of hair that people would call "hairy" though the hair may still be present.

I agree, that also means the main suggestion should be reversed, so better edit the posts to inform this.
