Should we be aliasing toward white_tailed_deer? Seems like there's been sort of a loose trend of doing underscores instead of hyphens pretty much with everything. Dunno if that's based on any policy or just a trend.

A bit unlikely. Creating an alias for a tag that was never used whatsoever usually is unnecessary, however the confusion between hyphen and underscore may be in fact a possibility in this case.
