Is there the possibility of making "redirects" from one tag to another? If so it may help to redirect tags in languages other than English to their English counterparts. For example, redirecting "Dracaufeu" and "リザードン" to "Charizard" so that if anyone tries to tag a Charizard pic with those names, the tag is automatically changed to "Charizard".
I checked the discussion forum's search feature and I don't believe this topic has been discussed yet.

Those are usually aliased into their appropriate tag. Manual work, but better in case the language used doesn't have a corresponding tag, like with artists, and vice versa with our more specific tags that would mean a phrase in another language.

It'd certainly be possible, and would improve the accessibility of the site.
But considering how slowly aliases get approved, I wouldn't recommend submitting those. There's more important ones than species, such as getting the artist nicks aliased.
