Not the first time this topic has been brought up, but we still lack an umbrella tag for lamia, taurs, and other creatures that have mismatched upper and lower torsos.

post #1240420 post #1167033 post #1219827

Among other things, this is a major stumbling block for various tagging projects, because excluding those from searches one by one uses up too many tags.

Can we finally settle on how to categorize those? Here's a handful of old suggestions:

  • liminal_being: This is what wikipedia and tvtropes calls them, but it was said to be too obscure to be used here.
  • half-human_hybrid: Not valid, because not all of them are half-human. Also very likely to be mixed up with generic hybrid.
  • chimera: Was intended as a tag for any creature with mismatched parts, but the general consensus seems to be against that.
  • half_and_half_creature: Lengthy, but might work?

What do you think?

Mixed_form would fit with our existing ambiguous_form tag.

Too broad, that could apply to any type of hybrid or mixed being.

Its not specific for creatures that have a composite body physically half one animals body and half another animals body (which is the subject here).

In regards to "liminals" obscurity can be changed overtime so i dont think thats a reason to discount it.

Would a simple hybrid work?

Never mind, misread it slightly. We could modify the term to include non-offspring, so it could fit.

Split_form, or some other word that allows a better mental depiction perhaps?

Waistline_chimera? (or waistline_hybrid)

Been chewing on this for a month, didn't come up with anything better.
Split_form seems workable. It's short, and the usage is probably clear enough. Maybe we should just use that for now, and rename it later if anyone comes up with a better name?

Sounds good to me. When are the implications coming?

Actally, I see some problems regarding this name:

I) It don't sound like an actual species name, factor which might lead to some misinterpretations (even with orange color).

II) Maybe it isn't enough clear. When I read "split_form" I think in something more like Two-Face (probably due to the "split" part).

I though in something like 'interform_creature'empty (maybe a hyphen would be necessary). The term 'inter" is a english prefix for 'intermediary', and the 'creature' part would be just to make clear it is a species tag.

p.s. Sorry for the late, I didn't noticed this thread when it came out.

Anything that makes it easier to find satyrids is good in my book

What is a "satyrids"? Is that a typo?

Satyr-oids. Skip the O because there is a vowel, Y, behind it already and pronouncing YOI would be hilarious. But it's also a real word for a group of butterflies, hence the hyphen. Satyr-oid shows results similar to what we are looking for.
