Topic: Deleted for "Subjective Content"

Posted under General

It obviously has a definition and there must be categories that apply to it. I don't mind posts being deleted because there is a problem with the content, but deletions hurt my ability to share more content. An explanation as to what I need to avoid to keep my posts from being deleted with "Subjective Content" being the reason would be appreciated.

Mods reserve the right to delete non-furry pictures at their discretion. Some non-furry pics may be approved if a mod likes it enough, and most others will be deleted.

Essentially "Subjective Content" is a catchall for a very VERY broad category of items, including anime, video games, and other art that doesnt fit the "General theme" {Furries} of E621, "Subjective" in this context roughly terms down to the mod who gets to it first, is it funny or not to that mod, a lot of variables and like any human we sometimes err in our judgement.

So users cannot flag an item with "non-furry" content as it is a subjective reason, but mods can? A double standard then. I have only noticed this reason being used in the past few days and by only one of the admins. So I am unsure if this is true. I will not dispute the right of a mod/admin to delete an image, but I would like clarification to avoid it happening in the future. if this is not possible then I request ANYTHING deleted for a subjective reason/mod discretion NOT count against a user in their upload count. Its unfair and punishes the whole community really by limiting a user from sharing additional content because their images were deleted.

"Subjective content: Deleted at moderator discretion"

This deletion reason really annoys me.
It contains lots of pompous words, probably because it's supposed to sound important. But it tells us absolutely nothing.

I'd prefer if the mods used honest deletion reasons, such as:
- I don't like it
- I don't think it's funny
- etc.

So people can argue about the subjective deletions?
No thanks, I'd rather stick with people not knowing so they don't have anything specific to disagree with.

The mods do not need users telling them what to approve and what not to approve. Flagging an image for ANY subjective reason is just saying "Hey mods! I don't want this image here. Delete it!" Not only is it annoying and presumptuous, it makes it so the image can't be flagged again in the future (even for valid reasons) since images can only be flagged once. If you don't like it, downvote it and move on. The mods have to look at every image that's posted. And if it really is irrelevant, we will deal with it.

I agree 100% with this, mainly because the expression "subjective content" makes zero sense. Every time I see "subjective content", this pops into my head.

I've run into this in the past...how should we deal with an image that needs to be flagged (higher quality version uploaded, etc) but can't be?

PM a mod.. Simple as that. :)

I agree 100% with this, mainly because the expression "subjective content" makes zero sense. Every time I see "subjective content", this pops into my head.

But it is a double standard. If an image does not violate a do not post rule and is not of substandard quality or already posted in a more presentable fashion, then it CAN be deleted by a mod for ANY/NO reason. If that is the case then in the rules section about uploading I think it should be annotated: Mods can delete posts for any/no reason whatsoever.
Also it was completely glossed over, but post deletions hurt the community. It already takes more than a day for any of my posts to be approved and more posts deleted because a mod found them "subjective" means fewer posts I can make before I reach my limit.
If there is an agreement that the "Subjective Content" reason seems flawed then let me advocate a few things:

1. Change the rules to state that any image, regardless of value can be deleted at anytime by a mod for any reason or no reason.
2. Make "Subjective" an invalid reason for deletion for mods. If the rules state mods can delete what they want then this is really a non-issue as a user should expect it can happen.
3. Do not factor in posts that are deleted in this fashion to the users end posting count. (I understand the basic reason this rule is in play, but it sometimes annoys the hell out of me. If I upload an image that is say 100 pixels smaller than an existing one and it gets deleted but passes the auto-filter because its a different size it feels like a slap in the face for simply wanting to share but not realizing someone had a better image).

TL;DR - I don't dispute a mods ability to do as they please. I do think though that the rules should warn people as much and should be changed to not punish people who fall victim to its ire.

Really, it's not a double standard as what it comes down to is the mod inquestion found that the image did not fall under our preliminary posting guide; subjective does not mean ANY post can be deleted at any given time, merely the ones that do not fall under our general "Theme" for the site come under the blanket of "May be deleted, upload at your own risk." If you upload a human, with nothing else, it may be deleted at any time; if you upload a car with a fancy decal on it, but nothing furry; it may be deleted at any time. It may not. Hence it being subjective; it all depends on which mod gets it first, and group rulings can overrule a single mod decision.

1; again, this only applies to pictures that do not fall into the general theme of e621; that being "Furry". As we are a primarily furry image archive; uploading other content is at your own risk; and subject to deletion at moderator discretion.

2; Subjective was decided on AS a valid reason simply because users could PM us and ask us "Hey, why was this deleted", and it gave us a general term to use for images that "Didnt quite fit the site" but weren't "Delete on site" standards. Pictures that straddle the line between "Ok to post" and "Delete on site/deleted for reasons {Repost, DNP, Paysite content, RL Pornography}", it's simply the grey area; again, post at your own risk.

3; Mods will generally come down and give your upload ratings a boost if it gets too low, that is to say, if you haven't abused the upload system. The system is built in such a way that we cannot remove the deleted/upload post count marker.

Images can be flagged as many times as needed, that was fixed in the patch before this one.
