Topic: Quick question about post deletion

Posted under General

When an inferior version of a post gets deleted to make way for a better version, what gets transferred and what doesn't?

Can comments and favs be transferred if they aren't already?

Updated

Only favorites will be transferred; this has been discussed before, but votes and comments do not because there may be negative impacts on the new post.

For instance, if it was automatic then a BVAS'd post whom's inferior post was a thumbnail, may transfer downvotes and comments that do not belong.

If manual, this would require an excessive amount of work from approvers with little payoff; on any given day, there could be hundreds of BVAS posts being replaced and only a few approvers to work on them. Having them cherry-pick comments and/or votes could make them less inclined to focus on such posts, which'd further lengthen the pending approval list.

There is a workaround, by including the deleted post somewhere a user can see the comments on the post, and even continue to comment (or so it seemed).

Favorites already get transfered. Votes and comments do not, but you can still access the comments from the old version. For example: post #1305180 still has that old comment on it.
