Topic: Possibly implementable method of quickly sorting through masses of art.

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

Hello,

So, I have an idea for some kind of tool, be it a website, browser extension or application, that will make sorting through loads of art in one hit easy. Here is my problem:

I have loads of favourite artists. They all have artwork dating back several pages, and I want to go through every single piece of work from every single artist, faving and upvoting the pieces I like and skipping the ones I don't. I have already worked out I can use ambiguous tags such as ~adam_wan or ~zeta-haru to narrow down my searches to a list of all the art from all the artists (every single item is from at least one of the artists). Okay, so I have my method of getting lists of all the art from the artists I like in one hit, and nothing more but nothing less. Now my dilemma occurs: It is EXTREMELY inefficient to go through every image, click UP and click +Fave, or skip it pressing back, so here's my proposed solution to said issue:

A tool which you log in to e621 and type in a list of artists (obviously up to 5 as 5 tags max) and it will go from the beginning of the list, automatically skipping the ones already faved and displaying a lower resolution quick-to-load-yet-fully-visible-and-able-to-be-made-out version of the image, and I can just hit Y or N on the keyboard. Every Y will fave and up and every N will skip to next.

I hope others can see the use I do in this kind of tool. I'd happily make it, however don't have the skill required to do so, so this would be something someone else would have to pick up on... sawwy.

You want to be able to fav and like posts from low res samples/high res thumbnails?

Good luck waiting for a tool. In the meantime, life is full of compromises:

  • Regular users can search 6 tags.
  • You can filter out your favs with -fav:pokis.
  • You can change the "mode" on Posts pages from "View posts" (default) to "Add to favorites" and "Remove from favorites".
  • There's nothing to add likes, remove likes, or dislike from the thumbnail view, as far as I know. Maybe one of e621's many user created tools has a shortcut.
  • Not what you wanted, but you can set your account to "Show reduced samples" in Settings to load downscaled versions of large posts after clicking them.
  • E621 was my main reason for looking up and learning Ctrl + W (close tab), Ctrl + Tab (next tab), and Ctrl + Shift + Tab (previous tab). I've also bound next tab and previous tab to two of my mouse's extra buttons.
  • You can zoom in your browser while browsing thumbnails, and in times of yore I remember users discussing browsing with the aid of add-ons that allowed zooming in of pictures without clicking them or something.

You might want to look into RSS feeds (example ). Feedly was almost satisfactory for me. With Feedly, you can view thumbnails for all your watched artists in a single list (and open those links), but you lose your blacklist. You can change Feedly's view from Magazine (what I took a screenshot of) to Cards for larger thumbnails, which reveals their poor quality.

I download the pictures I might like, sort them, and "reverse-fav" them with this tool. There's add-ons to download pictures with a single click/button. I use Bazzacuda. Unfortunately, Mozilla will be restricting Firefox's "filesystem access" to the Downloads folder with Firefox's next release to better secure the browser, so I won't be able to directly save to my unsorted folder (probably). I'll have to use another intermediary like FreeFileSync to preserve the Date Created file attribute, which I sort by. :/

Have a look at TotalCommander (free 30 day trial, that thing leaves all file attributes intact when moving or copying, including date created tags. It also comes with some other stuff that might be interesting and worth the price tag to you. Beyond that, have you tried NTFS symbolic links? Linking that folder inside your download folder should fool Firefox into thinking it is allowed to have access to it.

Booru Slideshow extension for Chrome works nicely for quick browsing, I've sometimes used it for tag projects. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any fancy features: no login, so no blacklist and no way to favorite anything.

Yeah, it's not that hard.
For example, via webbrrowser you just log in and select all you want (eg find all posts with "canine anthro") and click on start, then you just click a + or - button for it to vote/fave, then it loads the next thing.

Actually, lets make it, it's not like I got anything better to do.

Alright, here it is, it's a little bit rough around the edges, but it's functional.

There one "bug", and solutions I had weren't satisfying, so when you start just minimize Form1 so it stops stealing focus.

Thank you.

Well holy shite. Thats brilliant! Thank you, it does what I want really well! That link expires in 4 weeks so it may be worth putting it up to the main tool list for download.

Alright, there are two more things I noticed.
You don't have the option to open Form2 (the + thingy) and you can't clear the current list (whoops).

So when you finish one list you need to reopen it.
