Topic: Is there a rule or universally accepted rule-of-thumb about removing "tagme" from posts?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I've come across some posts that still have the tagme tag on them, and I was about to remove it before thinking "What if the uploader felt like it needed even more tags?" I guess what I'm asking is, when is it okay to remove the tagme tag from posts?

Generally, if there's about a dozen tags (aside of, of course, lots of automatically tagged tags... y'know.. like if someone had tagged "wolf shark chimera" ... and automatically gotten canine, mammal, marine, fish, and hybrid as well.), it's prooobably okay.

That said, I know I've dropped 'tagme' on posts when I know I COULD put more tags on it. Especially stuff about position, etc.

IMO, delete it if you feel that most of the important stuff is tagged. :)

When you feel as if you've exhausted every relevant tag, or at least the obvious ones like artist, character names, copyrights, species, and key general tags like genders, sexual organs, sexual acts, and so on.

Dozen tags, as it says in the wiki.
Over-tagging it just floods out the posts that actually need urgent tagging.

And it's pointless to use it for posts that are already well-tagged, because pretty much every post is missing some tags. (...and we have other tags for non-generic tagging requests, such as character_request and unknown_species).

Edit: Removed it from posts with 30+ tags, but that still leaves a large pile to check.

Just make sure everything important is tagged. There's 2 reasons someone would add tagme

1) They're breaking the rules and never bothered to tag their upload

2) They have something specific that they want to tag, but they don't know the term/tag for it.

For case 1, remove tagme once tags have been added.

For case 2, try to make sure the tags do a reasonable job describing the general situation in the picture. Consider if there's anything with a somewhat obscure name that the tagger might have been looking for (e.g. sybian, bioluminescence, worm's-eye_view, etc.)

Or at least, that's how I view this...

Sometimes people just feel lazy or are bad at tagging and they are aware that 4-6 tags is probably too little so they add tagme so someone else would come and add some tags.
