Reason:

'Spanner' is British for 'wrench'. Same thing, different terms. Now I thought I read that official site policy is to go with the North American term when there's multiple terms internationally, because the site in headquartered in the USA. (I might be wrong about whether that's the policy or not).

In any case, wrench also has a lot more uses than spanner does. So for both of those reasons, I think the direction works best spanner alias to -> wrench. In any case, the two names for it should lead to the same tag.
