I fucking hate this site, I uploaded an image a while ago and they deleted it because the quality was bad? Wtf? I can’t afford a drawing program, why can’t you furfags be alright with a drawing on paper. I guess I have to stick with DeviantArt, Pixiv, and Furaffinity, cuz you faggots are sooooooo offended by someone’s attempt to contribute to this site. Screw you...

"Can't afford a drawing program"
Rebuttal: traditional_media

Chances are, you didn't crop out any visible desks or tables or binder lines, etc., or you didn't use a scanner and instead took a photo with your mobile device. But since I have to guess, I can't say what your problem was, and you're being vague and did not link your art so us regular viewers can see, ergo we have to resort to guessing.

If you want some advice, please provide the art you uploaded so we can tell you what went wrong.

There are numerous free drawing programs. Medibang paint, krita, firealpaca all come to mind.

As for that image, you've got a cute drawing, but it needs a lot of polish. Your linework looks rushed--there are several places where it's 'going outside the lines' so to speak-- like where her hands are on her hips, the lines of her sides overlap into her arms. her tail line overlaps with her hair and... lots of other places.

You can see half erased pencil marks all over.

The coloring is really ... messy. Take more time to fill in the space with an even layer of color and it'll be MUCH better. SEeing the scribble lines is generally quite unappealing. WHile seeing individual pencil lines CAN work quite well sometimes, it doesn't work here-- on the 'cat ponytail' you can see where the pencil moved in first large round circles, then long thin circles, before revolving to a lot of back-and-forth. This effect is especially bad on her shirt and leggings.

This image could be REALLY cute! You just need to take a lot more time with the inking and coloring.

Also your attitude, man. not attractive at all. Name calling is never alright, man. Especially when you could approach this from a calm and levelheaded perspective and get answers much more effectively.

I... er... no comments.

So, I was slightly right. But yea... the anatomy of a character in an image also counts towards quality. I mean, nearly every detail you've used are drawn flat, as if the character is literally 2d. The breasts are probably the worst, where the cleavage is supposed to be makes it look like one boob is larger than the other. You colored over other colors, particularly her left cheek's blush is over the head's cheek line, your colors should be solid for her everything (so inconsistency) and her pupils aren't the same size. Her head is a deformed circle, implying you tried that by hand instead of using any of the various circular objects or tools to trace a circle.

Now, onto the more subtle problems: her right arm is bulkier than her left, and it looks like you colored her tail at the same time you colored that arm. There's some eraser marks that you could have touched up on, I suggest an image editing program called GIMP to remove flaws if you are using a mono-color non-traditional background. It's free and relatively easy to use. Back on topic, her tongue line is clipping through her mouth and onto her face, and her mouth itself is lopsided to her right.

There's a lot you can improve on, so I suggest grabbing some reference sheets for anthro beings and starting from there. While I am not addressing your more obvious mistakes, for instance your color shouldn't be streaks, I'm not because you said you don't have a drawing program. While you don't need one for traditional media, I would not suggest using colored pencils for coloring traditional media; use at least an image editing program, again GIMP or Paint.net (etc.), and see if you can do better without bucket fill first.

I... I'm at loss of words.

It seems like you could write several pages of critique to any of those Trump Draws GIFs.

Do you educate kids professionally?

My father is a professional editor for his wife, my step mother studied art in college, and I took a variety of odd hobbies when I was young. Witnessing critique is second nature to me, as was being on the receiving end of critique.

But it does come with some advantages, particularly you learn to second guess yourself and always seek advice when you are starting out with a new thing. I pestered Ratte for some time about some general advice, she told me to just find reference sheets. Now I've found some reference sheets (and I use traditional media) but I hesitate to upload my art because I know it's not good yet. But I'm getting better, because of either critique from third party sources or because I second guess myself and simply try again instead of showing it around. I compare and contrast with older art, and I can see progress, but it's not good enough for E6 yet.

All and all, I recognize my boundaries and get help before I need it. I don't need the stress of rejection, I'd rather have the pride from when I show off a quality piece. E621 is inevitably my goal, since it has high quality standards and people willing to give a damn in case I don't make it.

As of right now, your drawing is the equivalent of an elementary school student's drawing that's on the lower part of the refrigerator. Vastly improve from that and maybe we'll start accepting your art. Keep practicing.
