Topic: Should the admin get rid of the "safe" tag?

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I can think of legitimate potential uses for the "safe" tag, but the actual usage doesn't match.

Probably best to alias it to invalid_tag and pick something else for labeling metal boxes that hold stuff if that ever comes up.

Condoms - Safe sex
Homeplate
Safes

what i meant in the first post is that users seem to be using it to describe the rating, rather than the context

Oh good god. Nice catch, Esme. Thankfully there aren't too many images tagged as such.

Um. Hm.

how about lockable_safe?

I can't decide whether I would alias safe to invalid tag, or lockable_safe....

in the mean time, removing 'safe' from the rating:s images without a 'lockable safe'

Eeeh.... I'm not sure I'd call one of the tiny home safes, or a hotel/bank safe a piece of furniture.

safe_(object)? combination_safe? vault? strongbox? money_chest? coffer?

It's for the really determined vandals.

and this is why I support lockable_safe (or locked_safe, but what if it's open?) it covers most all of the options, except the most extreme, and can cover those also if we want them to.

I'm leaning toward strongbox, coffer, or kist. Probably one of the first two.

Strongbox and Coffer make me think of treasure chests... also Coffer and Kist would probably baffle most users. I consider myself to have a reasonably large vocabulary, and while I know a coffer involves money and coins in a more historical feeling context (the coffers being bare). Kist makes me think of oranges :P

Then again, maybe just multiple tags for drastically different types of safes. Vaults are quite a bit bigger than most safes, for instance.

I can support the variation between, say, a cashbox, a safe and a vault, but... well, then there's this other problem:

when I tidied up 'safe'... there wans't a single 'safe' in it. it was all rating:s :P with the possible exception of one scribbled doodle on a piece of paper that might have been a bank vault or something.

So, I don't really know if all of the safe images are hiding away somewhere I can't find off hand (vault has three -- all fallout vaults, padlocks seem to all be bondage of jewelry (kids these days...) locks and padlocks seem to be used roughly interchagibly....) but actual safes?

post #227802 is all. it references safe cracking. :P so this isn't exactly a huge and broad spectrum of posts here. it's probably better to actually simplify as much as possible. :P

I still maintain safe_(furniture). Any sort of a safe is technically furniture.

fur·ni·ture/ˈfərniCHər/
Noun:
Large movable equipment, such as tables and chairs, used to make a house, office, or other space suitable for living or working.

safe/sāf/
Noun:
A strong fireproof cabinet with a complex lock, used for the storage of valuables.

Ah, but then what about a baseball themed picture?

I wasn't aware that furniture was put into place on home base. Note the '_(furniture)' bit there.

I'm sorry to say, but your point of contention has...

Uh, no.
You just completely failed to understand my point.

The argument here is whether to remove the "safe" tag, or replace it with something more suitable.
Your suggestion was that the "safe"(furniture)" sag was sufficient to do so.
I was attempting to point out that it was not in fact, because there are other potential uses for a "safe" tag that are not covered by the "safe_(furniture)" tag, i.e. a picture with a baseball theme.

True, whats the point for a "safe" tag??? Why not "bank_safe" its pointless to have a "safe" tag when we have a "safe" rating as Esme said in her first comment.

The safe tag is goign to be removed.

the safe tag, in it's current state, is being misused as an alternative for "rating:s" there for, it needs to be aliased away into another form.. be it safe_(furniture), lockable_safe or invalid_tag. This is happening no matter what, the only question is how.

"safe" in terms of baseball, would either be not tagged, be tagged with 'baseball', or perhaps 'umpire' or even "safe_(baseball)", or "safe_(spoken).. safeword is a different thing and not for use in regards to our... 75 posts tagged with 'baseball' ... (most of which are probably the BALL itself.)

Actually, jsut looked at baseball. Most of it is "baseball_uniform" or "baseball_bat" or "baseball_glove".

WE generally try not to tag individual words like "safe" unless it's somethign that will be used commonly. Safe, in a baseball sense, would probably best be 'tagged' by saying "playing_baseball" or some such, as that's more common.

the 'better' more common use for 'safe' would be someone hiding from a danger. theyr'e "safe"... but even so, this doesn't change the fact that not a single instance of the tag "safe" was refering to baseball. therewasn't even one refering to a lockable safe :P it was all... misused tags.

Are you giogn fro mroe bree after that post?

Anyway, a couple of thoughts on suggested potential uses for the "safe" tag:
-condoms: use the already existing condom tag
-safe sex in general: only likely to be visible in terms of condom usage (is there a single image with dental dam usage?), but if there must be a tag, safe_sex
-safe (as in object): big_metal_box_what_holds_things just kidding, go with lockable_safe
- baseball call: playing_baseball or similar
-(successfully) hiding from danger: safety

Safe_sex is actually a tag. there are a whole 7 instances... about half of which don't even involve sex happening, lol. But all of them include condoms. XD

Hmm.. we have condom and wearing_condom and filled_condom and condom in mouth and *pauses for 6 hours. There. the *condom* related tags are now cleaned up. Safe sex, well in hand.

-safe (as in object): big_metal_box_what_holds_things just kidding, go with lockable_safe

it's... PERFECT! :D big_metal_box_what_holds_things :D IT IS DONE! not really XD

- baseball call: playing_baseball or similar

*spends a few more hours tidying up baseball* playing baseball exists as a tag now. It has 5 images in total. :P

I'm debating having all the assorted baseball_* tags imply baseball_(game) but that's besides the point.

-(successfully) hiding from danger: safety

Yup, makes sence.

yet, all lockable :D
