Topic: 1200+ images in need of the barazoku tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I'm not gonna say the user's name here, but you'll obviously know when you click this here link to their uploads. They really like barazoku images, but unfortunately, of the 1235 images they have uploaded, only one of them has the tag. I don't have time to do it myself, but I do have an idea of the steps necessary. You'll want to start by excluding the overweight, chubby, and muscular tags as, while these tags are indicators of the bara tag, there are somewhere between 100-250 images that don't have any of these tags and should have at least one. Then, once you've dealt with that and cleaned out the images that have no bara tag potential, you can actually use those three tags as a filter for tagging the images with bara that need them.

I had no idea what "barazoku" was before this thread, so if you see user not tagging something obvious, then dmail or comment them about it, so they have the information in future. I helped this user to tag artists correctly as they didn't most of the time, where now they know and do.

Even better always in these kind of situations is that if users care enough of their own uploads, they can go and fix their own stuff as they remember what they uploaded most likely.

The *what* tag?

The "bara" tag (barazoku is the full name for the term bara)

Yeah OP I would've contacted the OP to let them know first and then maybe start tagging it yourself, or perhaps contact a privileged or higher user who could do some mass tagging if they felt it warranted it.

So I dm-ed them, and had a bit of back and forth to no avail. They are convinced that their uploads do not fall under that tag, and have not responded to me in several days.

Can't say much more to this, because I have absolutely no idea what would warrant post to be tagged with bara to begin with. Because we do have tags for stuff like overweight and musclegut.

Why is it barazoku in the first place? I've never heard anyone use that term for anything besides the magazine. The other boorus tag it as bara, which is far more common name for the genre. (It's most prevalent on Gelbooru, whereas Danbooru uses such a strict definition that it is only tagged for couple hundred of posts).

It should also be noted that this usage of 'bara' is westernization. In Japan, bara is simply 'gay porn for gay men', the characters are generally more masculine and older than in BL but it's not all musclechubs.

Anyway, nobody is obliged to add tags that they don't use (or like), the only requirement is four tags upon upload. Personally, I wouldn't tag it either, it's such a hard-to-define genre that it doesn't work well with twys.

Edit: Oh, and the original admin wiki entry even said that This tag is defunct. It is generally better to use more specific terms like muscles and chubby whenever possible. But that bit got edited out in 2016.

The tag says that it should be applied to both western and japanese art, which kinda renders the tag pointless. It would be a lot more useful if it only applied to kemono-style art. Even if the name gets changed, (as bara is not super easy to define even outside of the site) there are more than enough images with the characteristics of overweight/muscles in a kemono style to warrant a tag for it.

It should really just be "bara". Barazoku is the magazine that the term originated from, but the term itself is just "bara". Barazoku should be aliased to bara, opposite of how it is now.

For reference, just in case annnyone is saying "well that seems okay" ... this is like having a tag called "playboy" or "better homes and gardens".

For fun, Barazuko means "the rose tribe" and was a magazine that included pornographic pictures, but most of it was articles, stories, advice, and personal ads (much more feasible in Japan... where something like 93% of people live in urban areas (compare to 80% in the US) in a country about the same size (area) as Germany, but with a lot of heavily mountainous terrain that keeps strong development from occurring. .. that said, starting in 1971, this magazine helped a lot of gay men in Japan over the years--not just with fap material, but in the feeling of being accepted, and providing information about how to "do gay" in an era when the internet didn't exist.

*the more you know*

here's the wikipedia, to help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bara_(genre)

With all due respect, there are a lot of us who didn't go through the anime phase or learn Japanese along the way. I'm not aware of any rules that make it an uploader's responsibility to add foreign language tags to appease the anime crowd. Did I just miss that somewhere along the way?
