Topic: Tagging weapon magazines

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I've created magazine_(gun) to differentiate the bullet holder from the reading material, and tagged a few items where a weapon's magazine is shown on its own and not inserted into a weapon, but a thought occurred to me so I stopped before going too far.

The question: Should magazines inserted into weapons where it's visible (many rifles, for example, like the m16 or ak-47) be tagged as well, or just separate from a weapon?

Mind you, I doubt that searching on weapon magazines is going to be a common thing, but I'm all for more accurate tagging.

I'd say that unless the magazine is emphasized in some way--for example, being reloading, etc--not to bother tagging it. :)

I agree, I doubt there'd be much value in tagging every single image featuring magazine-loaded firearms with magazine_(gun). However I do see that it'd be very useful for images that either emphasise a magazine or feature it separate from a firearm.

also there's the fact that the majority of people don't know the difference between a magazine and a clip.

Here's an idea. Have a separate tag for detached magazines, clips, ammo belts, or what have you. That way you don't get every single pic of an exposed magazine loaded into a gun being tagged with a redundant tag, and any picture featuring the magazine on its own will have a self-explanatory tag describing it. Like SnowWolf said, this will apply when they're emphasized. But again, the tag itself should definitely specify that it's not a magazine that's loaded.

Okay, based on input here I added the following to the tag's wiki entry:

Only tag if the magazine is separate from a weapon, or being emphasized in some way, like when reloading. Simply having one visible while already inserted into a weapon (like for example with the m16 or ak-47) isn't sufficiently noteworthy for tagging purposes.

Now to start searching for tag fodder...
