Okay, so...discuss it. More than just "it's a game, and it's furry".

"Sonic Free Riders" was also...what's the term you used, super furrytastic, and that still sucked ass.

ok..well, its a sidescrolling rpg action adventure game that came out just yesterday i think. your like a blue fox... or raccoon, or cat or something. u pretty much just kick peoples asses with ur sword and the little adorable flying thing that follows you around. and the art and animation is just wonderful, everything is hand painted. people keep complaining about how all the characters are anthropomorphic animals and crap. but thats the best part for me! :D the only thing i dont like about the game is its lack of sexual cutscenes :c

Darkstalkers is kinda furry, and i'm sure it's better than some airborn minidirt game. Discuss that.

Im just saying, if you're a furry fan, (and that's a yes considering your presence on this website) then you will definantly appreciate this game.

Dust is in my opinion, a far better game than darkstalkers...

Price don't matter. Mushihimesama HD Limited Edition costs $126 but is completely sexy, and comes with an equally sexy soundtrack.

Could be the cheapest game in the world, on sale, and it still wouldn't do us with no money any good.

That's about 14.99 too expensive from what I've seen of the game. I didn't even know people played indie games on consoles. :I

I bought the game too, and it is absolutely amazing. And yes, it features anthropomorphic animals. You play as an anthro samurai squirrel (I think he's a squirrel) with a female bat nymph creature as a sidekick. The animation and set-pieces are breathtaking, the combat is fluid and nuanced, the voice acting is compelling, albeit a bit cheesy at times, and the game is completely self-aware and loves to poke fun at itself. You'll find countless nods to other popular games like Resident Evil 4, Killer Instinct, Super Meat Boy, Spelunky, Mass Effect, Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, and probably a lot more. I cannot recommend it enough.

plus I'd totally do Fidget

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about, not all furries like isometric 2d side scrolling beat-em-ups, I like top down isometric strategy games after all, so clearly this isnt the game for me

This is actually one of the first side scrolling beat EM ups I've ever played... I'm definantly not crazy about the genre. I'm a fps/RPG guy... But this game, is actually pretty fucking epic.

The problem is your assumption that being a fan of furries means the definitive appreciation of a game just because it has furries in it; I don't like "Tail Story" just because it has furries. I weigh a game on its own merits, not because it has "Furries" in it.

I need to try the demo for this, but I don't want to hook up my 360 to do it.

Maybe when I am done with Sleeping Dogs.

Ok, maby I emphasized the fact that its a furry game due to the fact that this is a furry based website, but it would still be a awesome game even if all the characters were turnips.

I'm pretty sure it would kinda go down on the awesome-meter, i mean it's a really well thought out and detailed CHARACTER not VEGETABLE!

Not really, it's just a straight up christian series made by a christian company and clearly labeled as a christian product.

Also, it's pretty funny, despite the Christianity.

Same... no credit card + refuse to do business with PayPal = can't buy shit online. And stupid Google won't accept Visa/MC prepaid gift cards nor my debit card...

sigh, guess I'll have to get a credit card sooner or later. Or get people to start accepting BitCoins... oh wait, don't have any of those either.

I like it so far, the controls are polished so it's just fun to smash things.

And of course fidget is delightful

I have to ration out these arcade games because I feel like I'll burn through them in a night and don't want to do that with this one.

i know... This is the kind of game that I like to play in short 20 minute bursts so I can keep it going for as long as possible. I am not looking forward to it's ending. Even then, I'll probobly just play it again on hardcore.

Dust 2, now even elysianer!.. I really hope so, he did an awesome job by himself! Just think of how epic this game could be if he worked with others.

i also wonder if he'd consider developing for the pc as well.

i've just finished archer's pass and i'm glad that all girl characters don't turn dust into a blithering idiot like that girl back in town did, lol.

I just finished the same part... With that blacksmith chick that wants to rape you and her little creepy assistant that just growls all the time?... You could tell from the very beginning that the chick in the town was gonna be the main love interest. She ain't bad though... Not, bad, at all....... OvŌ

Took me two days to complete, achievements and all. So not the most lengthy game ever, but was still quite an experience. And where the fuck is my Fidget rule34?

Yes, she is absolutely adorable. I just want to cuddle with her for all of eternity... But her voice does get moderately annoying at some points. Most of the time, all I hear is "bla boo bleah bla" as I get lost in her big adorable eyes... I love what dust says when fidget gets silenced for the first time, "you mean fidget can't talk..? That's... Terrible..." (sarcasm) lol

So far, I've thoroughly enjoyed the game. It's an amazing accomplishment, truly, for one person to be responsible for all of that.

Core gameplay

The core gameplay is just my speed of platforming and fighting. After what effectively amounts to a tutorial level, the main character feels responsive while still animating fluidly. That, in itself, is no small feat.

It's clear that Dean Dodrill wanted players to feel powerful and have some variety of moves to use without feeling overly technical. I'm especially pleased at the parrying mechanic, which plays it somewhat fast and loose with the timing in a way that benefits the player. Even when done accidentally, parrying is never a bad thing as it leaves the victim monster helpless for an ample span of time, allowing you to finish it off at your leisure.

The XP bonus system for racking up large hit combos has done well to encourage me to take opportunities for combos, without making me feel punished if I happen to miss out. The timer on the combo score allows a player to fight defensively and take an instant to reposition themselves if they become surrounded. It's also relatively easy to rack up the combo hits with some visually impressive abilities that can turn the majority of the screen into a flaring hazard zone that chews monsters to bits with a great many hits. To really max out combos, though, you'll need to balance screen-filling aggressive powers against your finite ability to use special moves to hop from enemy group to enemy group. I haven't bothered pushing myself for that, but I appreciate that the challenge is there for when I'm ready.

RPG mechanics

The leveling system does a great job of following the difficulty curve of the game's monsters. Again, no small feat here, as many AAA games manage to bollocks this up nicely, usually leaving the player to grind for experience or resources.

The world is setup to have several hub zones where the player can receive quests that progress the main story, reward them with loot and new abilities, and explore the world of Elysia. One thing I find a touch frustrating are a couple of quests that become available early in the game but are impossible to finish until later, and one in particular seems to be destined for the end-game. Still, many can be tackled right away, and accomplishing them is rewarding.

There is a crafting system which is modestly important but not critical to the gameplay. It gives purpose to the wide variety of items that monsters drop. I don't feel, so far, that it's especially missing any items, but I do wish that there were a wider variety of items to encourage me to use the many, many components that I'm picking up. I find myself hoarding them on the chance that they're needed for crafting something, but I think there may be more types of components than types of craftable items. It would seem strange and a little backwards if that were really the case, but I'm also not done with the game yet.

Writing and voice acting

The voice acting is competent, though nothing terribly special. It's certainly better than a lot of professional voice acting from the English translation of many Japanese games, but natively western AAA games generally have better performances. I can absolutely forgive that, however; I'm aware of how much the Screen Actors' Guild wants for their voice talent and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. And it speaks volumes that I draw comparisons to AAA games with their SAG-friendly budgets. This is pretty good for anyone who can't afford to pad Hollywood's pocketbooks.

The writing itself is notable mostly for not sucking. It's not treading any new narrative ground, it won't win any awards, but it's functional, its characters have personalities, and, well... it doesn't suck. That's also pretty good, I think, for one guy by his lonesome.

I find Fidget to be funny and cute. She plays the comic relief from a variety of perspectives, usually poking fun at elements of the game itself or its hybrid of genres. I could see how people would find her annoying, but let's make one thing clear: She never interrupts the player with a "hey, listen!" so she's at least 10 or 11 internets more tolerable than Navi ever was. The writing also uses her as the butt of several jokes, as well, which should bring some chuckles from the people who do find her annoying.

Visuals and animation

Obviously, it's amazing that the art and animation was all done by one guy. I mean, that's a fucking epic quantity of work, and done at generally fantastic levels of quality. It's easy to want to compare this game to the likes of Muramasa from Vanillaware, but it just seems unfair to compare a one-man show against a studio with 8 people devoted wholly to character and background art, and never mind producers, programmers, and writers.

With that in mind, I find many of the characters' eyes just a touch off, as though they're painted onto the characters' faces instead of placed inside the character's faces the way eyes actually are.

Visually, everything else is fantastic. Give this man all your internets, because he wins.

Honestly, that's main reason I bought it too. I saw it and was like holy shit, it's a furry game I gotta buy it! And hey, it turned out to be a surprisingly awesome game.

Updated by anonymous

I saw the trailer not too long ago, and the design is beautiful.
But the whole "buy it, it's a furry game" seems like an understatement.
Sonic the Hedgehog is then disappointed if that's all it takes to make a good game.

Updated by anonymous

"Furriness" is not all it takes to be a good game, I understand that. And this one has alot going for it... Other than the fact that it's full of bunnies and foxes. It's got an awesome story, the combat is great, its art and animation is amazing, the characters are all memorable, and it even has a few RPG elements thrown in there. In my opinion, its an all around kick ass game.
