Just like pokephilia implies interspecies, as it's a pokemon x a non pokemon, digiphilia should too. It's a digimon x a non digimon.

Xenophilia in most circles traditionally refers to a fetish for aliens; teratophilia is for monsters.

Well... we use bestiality which refers to ferals with things-that-are-not-ferals.
pokephilia is suposed to be pokemon-with-not-pokemon.
it's not unreasonable to use digiphilia and xenophilia in a similar way.

It/s... kinda like how a solo picture can't have a sexuality (ie, 'male/male solo' should have no results.)... it can't be xenophilia if there's not an alien boinking a non alien. If you're into aliens, then you should search for alien, yeah?

and, infact alien sex interspecies has over 1500 posts

and alien sex -interspecies has plenty of alien-on-non-alien content

So... I don't think xenophilia is a bad tag, just undertagged.

Couldn't have said it better! I'm terrible with wording things right.

But yeah... it is ABSOLUTELY undertagged, and could be useful if it were properly tagged.

Xenophilia is attraction to the unusual, including mutants, aliens, robots, and other sentient non-humans. As such, it's far too generic to be used as a tag.

While this may be true for some uses of the term, the term actually has a pretty accepted definition that differs for FICTION; xenophilia has multiple definitions depending on context. Quoted from wikipedia:

"Xenophilia is a theme found in science fiction, primarily the space opera subgenre, in which one explores the consequences of love and sexual intercourse between humans and extraterrestrials, particularly humanoid ones."

Yeah, in science fiction it's commonly aliens, which is hardly surprising: non-humans in scifi tend to be aliens. But this site isn't science fiction focused.

Sorry for being picky about it, but I've been on the xenophile mailing list since 90s, and get annoyed when people misuse the term. Most of the content on this site falls under xenophilia.

I can understand your frustration! But tbh considering what SnowWolf said: I do feel we could have a use for a tag of this nature, or at least in the "alien x non alien" nature, regardless of the name. Perhaps it could be named something else? I just used Xenophilia cause that's the most common known term for it in fiction, but maybe it's too broad.

Well, an another problem with that is that the alien tag has always been problematic. So far we haven't managed to form any consensus on how to even use it, and it tends to be tagged based on outside information instead of twys.

Consider these aliens, for instance:

First one looks like a generic furry, the second would be at home in most fantasy settings. Wiki even includes creatures such as cthulhu, which would visually be a better fit for monster than alien.

Yeah, I don't disagree there. I feel alien is often just misused on a lot images, often tagged instead of just a general animal tag.

It really is an interesting question. what 'makes' an alien? what makes a monster a monster?

What is it that makes cthulu a monster while an alien from aliens is an alien? what makes a made up animal-liek species a fantasy race that is neither alien nor monster?

What intangibles make up these particular flavors of "otherness"? .... and why doesn't everyone agree? XD
