Topic: [Feature] Remove "add a blip" from profile pages

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.
What it says on the tin.

Why would it be useful?
People who do not frequent in blips seem to constantly mistake that button for some sort of profile comment feature. Sometimes i have even seen people think that its for writing profile info. This results to people mistakenly spamming in the blip feed and posting things in blips that are obviously not intended to be public like that.

Removal of this button would not be a great loss because all it does is that it adds @*username* into the front of next blip.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Profile pages

what if instead it directed to the blip page and you had to click "new" there

+1
besides if I want to write a blip I only ever go to the blip page.

I don't use blips, but it seems to me that first of all, that link is misnamed. "Add" is a bad word to use because its implicit operand is the profile, "Send" would be better.

Secondly, it might be more clear to explicitly go to the 'new blip' page (automatically inserting the '@username' part), rather than popping up an inline form. Following the principle "There Should Be Exactly One Way To Do X" generally seems to reduce confusion.

Definitely -1 on

directed to the blip page and you had to click "new" there

; that seems like the most annoying of both worlds ;)

+1 and also add a line or two at the top of the blip page explaining what they are. I've seen many "what the hell is a blip" messages and I hardly ever look at them.
(Yes I know there's a help link right there)
