Bug overview description.
I tried to send a suggestion to alias Ｎion to nion, since that uppercase N is from Japanese Unicode and hard for Westerners to write, so people searching only for nino would miss out. Anyway, after submitting the suggestion, I'm taken to the forum page, but my would-be thread is absent and there's no message. It's just as if I clicked on a common linnk to the forum.

Alias suggestion page and, I assume, implication suggestion page too.

What is the expected behavior?
Fot the suggestion page to post a thread with my suggestion.

What actual behavior is given instead?
It just takes me to the forum instead.

Yes.

What steps did you take to replicate this bug?
Just use "Ｎion" in the tag field of the suggestion page.

It happens when there's already a pending alias request. If you run a forum search for either of those tags, this thread pops up.

I'm under the impression there are a large number of unresolved alias requests piling up. A couple of months ago I ran into this issue myself, only to find a thread from about six months prior.

Tell me about it. I suggest a lot of aliases for artists with multiple names and some obvious synonyms, but they're never enacted because no one bothers voting. Looking at the suggestions log, it seems that most other suggestions are as simple as mine.

Honestly, voting for aliases isn't quite working. I think mods should approve suggestions at their own discretion, and anyone who wants to dispute one of them does it in a specific thread or somesuch.

You don't vote for aliases. All that +1 says is that you agree with the reason given. Admins get to it eventually regardless of what votes it does or doesn't have.

I imagine aliases for multi-name artists could take quite a bit of reasearch. Also I understand that nobody really cares about flower_pots but I still feel like there are quite a bit of simple and important ones that could've been easily fixed.

Just out of curiosity, how complicated is it actually for a mod/admin to approve/deny an alias/implication suggestion? Like, are there buttons for it or does it require 17 lines of code?

My information MAY be out of date.. both regarding proceedure and mechanics... but, six years ago... when I approved an alias/implication it went something like this:

(Might have a detail or two wrong--It's been 6 years!)

• Look at alias/implication, and consider all of the ramifications of these potential changes. This can take a while, especially for complicated things
• Make sure the tags are cleaned up. This is really time consuming, because you've GOT to make sure everything is right. If you've got, say, both smartphones and flipphones tagged as mobile_phones, it'd make a mess if I aliased mobile_phone away to smartphone. This can get REALLY scary when you're talking about big or broad ideas. See also, considering the ramifications of all changes.
• check for any connected aliases/implications.. (if mobile_phone implies phone, then that needs to be deleted. if mobilephone aliases to mobile_phone, that also needs to be deleted)
• again, RAMIFICATIONS.
• from there, it's basically hitting 'add' then typing in 'mobile_phone' and 'smartphone' and submitting it. (you should also type in a 'why' and if there are any related forum threads, but yeah.)
• There might be an extra step of approving it, but I don't recall.
• repeat with every other related alias/implication.
• make sure you don't accidentally make an alias when you mean to make an implication, or the other way around. that's a mess.

For large tags, there is concern needed regarding how LONG it'll take to do all of the things, and I remember waiting until late night hours to approve some really big implications/aliases.

So... the actual MECHANIC of it is pretty simple. it's all of the ramification work that really takes time. That and writing out wikipages.

It can honestly get really overwhelming trying to do these--it might seem pretty simple, but then if you do that one, you should do ALL of them and, well.. it gets overwhelming.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. Didn't realize the importance of the tag being clean though, now that I can understand takes a lot of time.
