I mean... fingerpads weird me out. I think about how every dog I've met has coarse callousy pads and those are pretty cross to me. I try to reason that my feet are a lot harder than my hands, and that they're probably soft little toe beans like most kitties have, but whenever II see someone with fingerpads touching something soft and delicate, a part of my brain goes NO EW BAD

So.... er...

Why is 'pawpads' a bad tag again?

-1. While it's the same paddy tissue as on feet, they aren't on the feet. It's something that stands out, as you expect that on feet as a way to cushion the steps, but on hands it's just a fancy thing.

I'm sorry, are you actually responding to this entry or did you accidentally get misplaced on the wrong forum entry????
I never said pawpads was a bad tag nor did I say it was somehow discusting:/

pawpads is used for both pads on the hands and feet, fingerpads is used for pads on hands and feet. While the wiki's on both state otherwise in practice that does not at all seem to be the case. That is why I'm proposing a alias.

....I guess I'll phrase it more bluntly: I can see a very legitimate reason why a person would blacklist fingerpads but not pawpads. They are not the same thing.

Nope, you didn't.

But you did say "redundant, likely to become a exact duplicate of pawpads if a tagging project was devoted to it."

Which implies that there is something wrong with 'pawpads' and how it is applied to the site.

Didn't mean to imply that you thought that they were gross or anything, but you don't seem to think highly of 'pawpads' and I'm confused why.

Well, if we didn't have a tag for hand-pads before, it's not unreasonable that people made the mistake of using one tag for both types of pads, especially as fingerpads was only recently created.

I think it would be more reason to have a series of implications like:

"hand-pads" implies paw_pads
"foot-pats" implies paw_pads

however, that involves a fair amount of tidying up. the nice side is that you could general search for paw_pads -hand-pads -foot-pads to get posts that need adjusting. On the other hand (haha) at a bit shy of 50,000 posts, this would not be a small project.

to be fair,. feet and paws in general are kind of a mess.. we have handpaw and hindpaw that both imply paws, but forepaw is aliased to paws, though paws is described as "feet" and hindpaw is also for "feet"

and 'handpaw' is a paw without a thumb, or a stubby hand with pawpads, which implies paws which are for feet.

I feel like I'm forgetting at least one foot/hand/paw tag too....
