Topic: [Feature] Listing the specific invalid tag in the tag history

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.
Listing in tag history the specific tag entered that resulted in an invalid_tag error.
Why would it be useful?
Guide later corrections when there is no clear way to tell what tag a poster intended to use, especially on older posts where the poster may no longer be active.
What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
All new uploads at the very least, unless the entered tags are stored prior to aliasing for every post, if that were the case it would effect all posts that had ever had an invalid_tag.

I would not be surprised if the effort to implement such a thing would outweigh the benefit, but I am curious if it would even be possible. It may well be that tags-as-entered vanish into the ether after being processed.

Relatedly, if I have no idea what invalid tag was entered for a recent post, do I just add whatever fitting tags I can apply and delete the invalid tag or?

Retroactively, no. There would have to be a big redesign of the whole tag history system to provide this type of information, as it currently doesn't exist. The tag systems do all of their preprocessing such as aliases and implications long before the history system gets to see them.

In other news, it sounds like you might be interested in our test of the new upload form, which has a preview tags function, where you can actually see if the tag is going to be aliased away to invalid_tag or not, and which one it is.

You can try that out here: https://e621.net/post/upload?use_new=true

Can we maybe have more invalid tag groupings? Currently there's pretty much only invalid_color, having a few more types of tags might help people learn the tagging system better as well as help dedicated taggers determine which tags should be applied in place of the invalid tags.
For example moving some of the current invalid tags over to invalid_gender could be pretty useful.

I was going to suggest creating a new tag type "invalid".
+ removing all aliases to invalid_tag
Would require manual cleanup of invalid tags, but make it easier.
you'd find them with invtags:>0

But it's probably been suggested before, and the new upload form makes it unnecessary.

This still isn't totally out of the question. just not something that's going to happen immediately.

Considering how badly the disambiguations have failed (nobody cleans those ), adding another similar group to increase the workload seems like a bad idea.

The new upload form is looking great Kira! Is it okay if I give feedback here or should I made a new thread or is it still a work in progress?

New thread please, this is still a valid feature request. However I am welcoming feedback on the new upload form.
