Topic: At what point does a character stop being a corpse and start being food?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So, there are quite a few questions I've got relating to death, corpses, and food, sparked by uploading this comic.

The first is the in the title. It is obvious that the fish in the comic are not meant as characters, but rather just a piece of food. But they look like a dead character all the same, so it would seem as though they count as a corpse, and as a character.

But then where does the line get drawn? A steak is obviously a slab of dead cow, but we don't tag it as a cow, or as a character, or even as a corpse. It's just a piece of food.

Is there some percentage of a body that needs to be present for it to count as a character / corpse? Would a luau pig's head count as a pig? As a character? As a corpse? Would a headless pig's body count as any one of those?

I just don't know what the policy is on this.

Personally, I've been utilizing fish_(food) as a tag alongside fish, similar to the use of ambient bat and other ambient animals. Since the animal is in full, recognizable corpse form as a fish, I think the fish tag is warranted. However, the addition of the fish_(food) tag then clarifies the fish isn't a focus.

If the fish were, say, unrecognizable as the animal (see: sashimi), I feel the standalone fish_(food) tag and no fish species tag would suffice. Really, it's all unique based on the context of the content. TWYS and all
