Topic: Tag Implication: sphynx -> cat

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

This was brought up a while ago and we came to the conclusion tjat mistags were surprisingly rare despite the close spelling.

Tentative +1

Disambiguate. The house cat breed and the mythological creatures should be mixed up and *I* would make the error and not even notice.

Perhaps the tag for the cat species can be "Sphynx Cat" instead? That should be pretty easy to understand at first glance.

As for Sphinx... maybe "Sphinx (creature)" or "Sphinx (mythology)"?

I like Sphynx_Cat... there are a couple of breed-tags that are pretty confusing and should be clarified like that.

Such as the karelian_bear which is a type of dog.

Sphinx_(mythology) would match up with some of our other tags... egyptian_mythology, chimera_(mythology), pan_(mythology)

while _Creature tends to be used for... goo_creature, penis_creature, patchwork_creature..

So.. yeah, I like mythology :)

Wouldn't you notice you added the wrong tag if it it wound up as sphynx_cat instead of sphinx_(mythology)?

*tilts head*

I'm not exactly certain what you're asking? So I'll state my opinions and feelings clearly and hope that that answers your question.

I support:

sphynx aliases to sphynx_cat
sphynx_cat implies cat
sphinx aliases to Sphinx_(Mythology)

I believe this will cut down on most of the mistags. Some people will still mistag, of course, but they're the ones who don't review the tags after posting. And, I believe that if a mistagging did occur, that using Sphinx_(mythology) and sphynx_cat would increase the chance of someone correcting the mistake.

With those aliases and implications in place, disambiguating would probably be unneeded, though I feel that disambiguated tags are a great thing--they're like little note that says "someone's messed this up and didn't fix it." ... no matter what, there's a better answer. You just have to find it. :)
