Topic: Tag Alias: octomaid -> cecaelia

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Aliasing octomaid → cecaelia
Link to alias

Reason:

Same creature. However "octomaid" gives the wrong idea that it is an exclusively female species, also "cecaelia" is a more suitable term since it is the original name for this species; while "octomaid" is more like a neologism created by fusing the words "octopus" and "mermaid".

Related implications:

¹ A cecaelia has human, humanoid or anthro upper-body and a lower-body composed by multiple tentacles of octopus or squid.

EDIT: The tag alias octomaid -> cecaelia (forum #221670) has been rejected by @NotMeNotYou.

-1. We use Merfolk, so why not us octofolk? Or, Cephalofolk since it's not specifically only octopi. "Cecaelia" doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard or read, and google seems a bit confused on it too. It seems a few games use it, but I can't find any scientific origins. (If there are, please link so I can actually see them)
Oh, nevermind. The links I thought were game wikis were actually wikis for demons and myths.

1st) "Cecaelia" is a unisex term, that exists and already is in use (I helped on that, but didn't created the tag).
2nd) Is a term derived from mitology and used specificaly for this creature (like naga, gorgon, phoenix, centaur, satyr etc).

So, why should we create a new tag?

If people aren't used to a term, it's easier to use one that's more obvious but otherwise identical. I'm not completely against the Cecaelia tag, I just want to cast a vote for a tag that fits the theme of the already existing merfolk tag.

It is an alias. if someone search for "octomaid", the wanted posts will be found anyway.

I am in favor of standardization too, and that is why I am in favor of the "cecaelia" tag; to match with the other body-type tags based in mitology.

I am slightly worried about potential typos, but cecaelia is in common use. This alias seems good enough.

+1, and suggesting adding an implication to merfolk as well.

They're not merfolk, though. Merfolk are humanoid or anthro split_form characters with the upper body of a humanoid/anthro and the lower half of their body is the tail of a fish.
Cecaelia are split_form characters with the upper body of a humanoid/anthro with the lower half replaced with the legs of an octopus.

nuuuuuuuuuuu

as we discussed in forum #259462, cecaelia is NOT a common use word, and is infact a random D&D species that some RP website included on their list of mythological critters you can play, and several people have taken this as meaning that they are a legit mythological creature when cecaelia was made up by the D&D people. c_c

It's an awful word that no one can spell and no one's ever heard of :C

flip the alias TT_TT
