All I ask is that people stop tagging these pictures with 'mother' and 'parent'.

I'm honestly a little confused as to what the mother tag is even for, especially on solo pics. The wiki makes it seem a parent tag;) for mother_and_*, but it's mis-tagged on almost every picture of dogmom, toriel, and any other character who is canonically a parent.

The wiki is clear enough about those, so someone might need to go on a reporting spree... Looks like there's some users who have mistagged those for months, gonna take a lot of work to undo it.

And the older ones are left-over from an old implication. Seems like nobody went back and fixed the old posts when milf (which used to imply mother) got merged into mature_female. So there's probably around thousand old mistagged posts haunting the mother tag.

The tags mother/father and parent are all meant for pictures that also include the child. People are using them with 'tag what you know' knowledge on characters who are canonically parents, but not parents as the tagging system works.

I've been haunting the parent tag recently and making sure any new additions to it are properly fixed, but there's still at least 80 pages worth of combing to do. It's a little daunting.

Would it make sense to implicate mother_and_son and mother_and_daughter into mother_and_child, then invalidate mother altogether?

Should the tag stay on images where a character's "mother and child" status is confirmed entirely through dialogue (i.e. their kid is offscreen)? mommy_kink seems to specify interactions where a character is referred to as "mother" and "momma", so it might be applicable in those situations, but the name makes it seem exclusive to porn images.

That's...a really fucking rare situation you got there. Can you even find a single example of that?

I would say...no? If there's an image of like...a son in his room yelling for his mom to grab him some pizza rolls, then you can tag that son, because that alludes to a mother/son relationship...but probably not mother_and_son because the mother isn't physically in the image in any way.

Is there ever really an instance of someone calling their not-mom "mommy" where something kinky isn't going on? Like...not even a little kinky? Again...that's an extremely niche case that I don't think warrants changing the tag.

We normally only tag visible image, ignoring the text upon it (aside from, of course, things like english_text), so no, an offscreen character shouldn't be tagged as parent or child.

"Even a little kinky" isn't worth considering as "kinky," because frankly, everything is going to be kinky to somebody. However, I don't really believe it's wroth having a tag for. If you think you can find a lot of images that would fit it, throw them under a set for now.

I gave 'mother_and_child' a wiki entry for tags in which said child isn't visibly masculine or feminine.

As for having no visible son/daughter/child on the image, I think the mother and parent tags should be removed. The tags are there for visible motherhood/parenthood with a child present.

Nice. That'll also solve the old problem of how to tag herm children.

That didn't have a wiki entry? I had been using that tag too.

I didn't even realize it was hardly populated, I simply noticed it already had posts and started using it.

I mean, it's not helpful for tagging, but... a lot of.. like.. older people or sometimes new or potential parents will call the other 'Mom/mommy' or 'Dad/daddy' ...I know a lot of parents sometimes use mom/dad while talking about the other with the kids.

It's also a cultural thing, too.

It's also a thing among pet owners (My groomer refers to everyone as 'pet parents' and 'mom/dad' ... I suspect it's so she doesn't have to remember MY name, but it's also a true statement. :) I spend more on my cat's hair than my own, so...) ...and I tend to refer to my husband as "dad" while babytalking my babies. "Hey boy, what are you doing? Being upside down? how awful. Those tummy scratches are torture aren't they? Oh, such distressed purring. Oh there's daddy. Let's go see what Daddy's doing. Hi daddy. What are you doing?" or "hmm.. so did dad feed you?"

So... TOTALLY capable of not being even a little kinky.

not sure this really helps with tags though :P

It can even just happen when somebody is helping care for a younger person, they may say Mom or Dad out of either sarcasm or respect.

Or just on accident without even realizing it: https://a.tumblr.com/b66755ad6402d8bb75ffc59ac2d589f4/tumblr_p7k5xqqOrJ1tr11m3o2_r1_raw.png (Maybe questionable, but would likely show up on e926)
