Topic: Tag Alias: impending_doom -> imminent_death

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Hmm, impending_doom wiki page does not exist (ie. hasn't been started) ... what is the scope/range of impending_doom?
(and generic doom wiki not helpful because is about the game series).

Some tagged with impending_doom do look like imminent_death.

Others tagged with impending_doom :
post #1329911 , which doesn't look like imminent_death to me (injury possible if entered too roughly by that sex_toy)

post #1317096 , doom tag reasonable ... death only a possibility (potentially his weapon could miss or just give a flesh wound)

image with the guillotine (ewww!)(As a toon, isn't Tom invulnerable death-resistant?)

post #1139357 (which is sequel to post #1509589 ) ... impending_doom seems plausible tag, but death only a possibility (maybe just losing the kitchen to fire)

post #1096084 ... death doesn't seem that likely

post #491330 ... ha! (i agree with "humorously")

We have a bunch of these.

bad_idea
uhoh
it'll_never_fit
nope
user_death_imminent
(And also death by snu snu which I haven't checked for a while and don't know if it's always literal)

user_death_imminent could almost certainly be replaced by first_person and imminent_death

it'll_never_fit isn't really candidate for imminent_death nor impending_doom b/c rubber creatures.

uhoh could be merged in to bad_idea.

A lot of these could imply nope, but that's too opinionated.

The significant overlap more or less is why I am suggesting the alias. It appears to be the case, more or less, that where impending_doom does not look like imminent_death it has been applied humorously or out of failure to use unambiguous tags.

If my interpretation of MyNameIsOver20charac's comment is correct, then I would agree - the issue is less that of an alias problem and more that of an ambiguity problem. impending_doom is highly subjective, where as the only "subjective" component of imminent_death is the 'imminent' portion, which is widely agreed to be "resulting from the depicted actions".

If all the images associated with impending_doom are tagged with more absolute alternatives (e.g. imminent_death or bad_idea) then I would simply suggest that the impending_doom tag be deleted or invalidated.
