Topic: Blacklist refusing to work; as if it's been disabled

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Bug overview description.
Pretty much as the title states: blacklist works fine on desktop, but within the past week has refused to work when browsing on mobile. It used to work beforehand, but now just flat out fails to activate.

As of 11/10/2018 around 2:50-3AM EST, the blacklist now no longer works on my computer as well, seems this isn't a mobile exclusive issue.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Anywhere thumbnails are shown, so pretty much a good chunk of the website, including but not limited to avatars, comments, forums, etc.
What is the expected behavior?
Image is covered up by the "blacklist" label, sidebar notifies when something triggers blacklist.
What actual behavior is given instead?
Acts as if blacklist doesn't exist, no notification, no blocking the image, no triggering at all. As if my blacklist was blank.
Can you reproduce the bug every time?
Yep, on any search (on mobile) on both mobile and the computer, blacklisted content continues to show up and the blacklist fails to work.
What steps did you take to replicate this bug?
Search for anything (on mobile only), blacklisted content pops up.

What browser and OS are you using? Does the browser support JavaScript? Is JavaScript allowed to run?

According to browser settings, JavaScript is turned on and should be working and running, and has run before. It's only this past week that blacklist refuses to work, so I'm assuming JavaScript was working beforehand just fine.

Browser is safari, OS is iPhone 6s with current iOS (12.1)

Edit: I updated my iOS this week, so it could possibly be related to that? I am unsure.

Check to see if you're blocking all cookies in your phone settings for Safari. This has happened to me before, and this is usually the culprit.

Nope, cookies are unblocked. Haven't touched any browser settings in a long time, either

Also, are you using https://e621.net/post/index or https://e621.net/post/m?

Not using the mobile version, almost never have minus a long time ago to try it out. Don't know why the non-mobile site would decide now to be rude to me :( rip

My best guess is the latest iOS update messed with how my phone sees the site, possibly due to cookie tinkering or something making blacklists fail to work if viewed on mobile (or at least on iPhones)? Idk.

At the very least, MINUS the blacklist not working, everything else seems to be ok, it's just a bit of an inconvenience and uncomfortable to see things my blacklist would usually hide. Hopefully it either gets fixed or somehow fixes on its own...

Hm. You could try clearing the cache in your browser and see if that helps, and you could also check if it happens in a different browser.

Other than that we'd have to see if Kira has any ideas.

Cleared cache, but seemed to fix nothing. Tried it on both chrome and Firefox browser apps on iPhone but both also didn't register the blacklist. Perhaps this really is some issue with iPhones and the new iOS... hm. Hopefully Kira can help

Bumping this because now my blacklist is refusing to work on my laptop, acting as if it's empty, just like my problem on mobile. This is so bizarre... I thought it was just my phone causing the issue but now I have no idea. So uh. I'll update the OP post saying this now is effecting my computer and not just mobile? Hope it's fixed soon.

Also, yes, I've cleared cache and cookies, still not working. I'm currently using chrome on windows 10. Was using chrome version 70.0.3538.76 at the time, but have (within 10 minutes or so) updated to the latest 70.0.3538.102 version. Still having the same problem, so I don't think it's an issue with a chrome version specifically? Not sure.

Found the problem: Your blacklist is too long, somehow. If you remove a couple lines from it it'll start working again. Not sure how you managed to exceed the character limit considering it's a good bit shorter, but that appears to be the source of the problem.

Huh! Weird!

My settings said the blacklist was under the limit so that's still a bit odd. Oh well, at least we solved it!
