Topic: A thread for romanizing artist names?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Hey, I was going through and using some new found tools to fix up some missing tags, and I found this image: post #912293 and managed to find the artist on Pixiv. I can't provide a source (it's current source is r34, and I LOATHE that site for how it handles ads) because the link leads to an error saying it's private, so all I need is a romanization of this name: 泥 どねる

I would also love to leave this thread active for those who need help romanizing artist names from Pixiv.

No idea about the Kanji, but the hiragana portion romanizes to "doneru".

On a somewhat unrelated note about sourcing. I found a Hurdy image by the same artist, but it was uncensored. Should I still link to the censored version?

Looks like doneru's style alright to me. Looking it up to make sure, that is most definitely the artist we have under "Doneru"

If it's another version of the same image, yes (duh).

That first character says doro. Means mud. To really know how they choose to romanize it, assuming they ever do, you'd have to just find out. But if I were doing it, I'd probably just do Dorodoneru.

加藤茶吉

I read that as Katou Chakichi

I'm looking for help with this one: ヌュザウルス (tag here: ヌュザウルス)

Not sure what to do with ュ after ヌ. Whiteagle suggests "nyuzaurusu", but I would expect that to read ニュザウルス.

(Sorry to necro this 2yr old thread, but it seems to be the only one inviting others to ask about these sorts of issues.)

ヌュ is very much a nonstandard combination, but Googling it shows several examples of it being transliterated as "nu" (like "nuance"). Unless the artist has a preferred transliteration, such as a Twitter username, I'd go with "nuzaurus" or "nyuzaurus".

Thank you! I'll go with nyuzaurus.

A mysterious new Pixiv user: 釒釒釒 (seen in post #2109580 and children)
釒 is radical 167, from 金 (kin in JP, jin in CN).

Homepage is listed as this: https://www.nicovideo.jp/user/16701421
Where the name is 襾襾襾, radical 146. Related to 西 in JP.

Since they're using Japanese websites and their profile is in Japanese, I'm tempted to just go with "kinkinkin". Would that be the most reasonable?

EDIT 1/11/20: Just went ahead and tagged them kinkinkin.

Need some help here: でぃーえすてぃー

Whiteagle had trouble with it, but my understanding is that it's basically katakana "ディーエスティー" (DST) written in hiragana.

So should I just romanize as DST?

edit 1/26/20: just going to go ahead and romanize as dst_(artist)
