Topic: Tagging a Redesigned Character

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Recently an artist I follow redesigned one of their characters, with the biggest change being that the character is now an entirely different species. Nothing else has changed about them, however, as they have the same background, personality, and even proportions, with some exceptions. Would it be appropriate to have the redesigned character have the same character tags?

(As a side note, the specific character itself is Sirphilliam's Nerdy, who is tagged as "nerdcario", her original name, on the site. "Nerdy" was a name change that occurred while she still a lucario, so would it also be a appropriate to change the character's name as well on every post that includes them? Should I use something like "nerdy_(sirphilliam)"?)

This is why character names never implicate any other tag, because it is possible for them to change genders, species, have accidentally wrong features, etc.

If it's the same character, simply tag it with same character tag and then correct species per post. You can also create wiki page for the character with ? left of the tag and include bio of them explaining this.

How do I imply that a new tag would be a character, if I also need to change the character's name?

Alternatively, do I just change the original character name tag?

If it's the same character and characters name is also changed to their earlier form, then yes, simply change the character tag from all posts to be new name. Alternatively you can request alias, so every old named tag is changed to new name and users can search with both names: https://e621.net/tag_alias/new

However if the name change was during species change, you might want to consider then keeping those two names seperate for easier time and notify about the change on characters wiki page for example.
